SteamWorld Heist Launches First On Nintendo 3DS This Fall

SteamWorld Heist is set to launch this fall on Nintendo 3DS. Although Image & Form‘s upcoming title won’t be exclusive to Nintendo’s handheld, it will be available on 3DS before hitting other platforms – including Wii U. SteamWorld Heist revolves around space adventures and strategic shoot-outs. As Captain Piper, players recruit a team of ragtag robots to explore and forage the remains of a destroyed world.

  1. It’s another indie sidescroller, so it’s not much to get excited about. We need more indies to make 3D games because the indie market is over saturated with 2D sidescrollers. The next indie game that actually looks worthwhile is Yooka-Laylee, and that’s not due for another year.

    1. It’s a little late to say it’s not much to be excited about. The hype train started chugging along months ago and passengers are hoppin aboard on a daily basis.

    1. Excited for this title, Steamworld Dig is one of my favorite games from the past few years. Also, glad to see it come to 3DS first!

And 2D vs. 3D, meh, not really much of a debate, a game’s value is not increased simply because it is in a 3D environment.

      1. But there already many 2D sidescroller indies out there and for the most part offer the same gameplay. As opposed to 3D platformer indie games, of which I cannot name one on the Wii U. I don’t know if it’s because they’re more difficult to develop or if it’s just that indie devs want to play on that nostalgia to sell their games. There’s just so much more you can do in a 3D environment and I’m sure if devs put in some effort, their games could sell well. Just look at how fast Yooka-Laylee got funded.
