Those of you who feared that the lingerie and bathing suits in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water were being replaced with the Princess Zelda and Samus Aran outfits were correct, as they have been replaced by the Nintendo themed attire. Well, I’m basing myself over the idea that if NIntendo where as kid friendly as people claim them to be, they wouldn’t have sexualised Samus the way they do since the NES to Smash Bros 4, they wouldn’t have allowed Bayonetta 2 to have those suits, they would have censored games like No More Heroes and Madworld; when People mention the censorship of Bravely Default, they forget that it was S-E the one who decided to make the censorship. To say that Nintendo is the one who did the censorship and not the developer would be ignoring the history of the company and how they “censor” their games (the only censorship they would have done is changing religious stuff like in the first Zelda, because that WOULD have triggered people, no matter what they believed in).
Now to say that customers around the globe getting different stuff is unfair is more debatable than anything, because from what I get, Japan isn’t getting the Zelda and Samus suit (and that Samus suit doesn’t look very bad) and not all the countries have the same needs or desires.
People don’t realize it is also about the legality of it. They want to not get sued for things they have control over.

But the only reason I can come up with as to why they would remove those costumes is because they might be considered “inappropriate”, which simply seems odd to me considering an M rated game is meant for players who are 18+, and I’d like to believe people at that age are mature + old enough to be able to deal with things like that, especially when it’s an optional feature anyway.
So yes, while the M rating doesn’t mean they can’t take things out, I personally just can’t see any reasonable motive as to why the costumes needed to be removed, due to the reasons mentioned above.

It’s complete speculation and theorycrafting to say that Nintendo DIDN’T do the censorship. In most cases, the developer isn’t the one who is going to do that, the publisher will. Just because Nintendo didn’t censor Bayonetta 2 doesn’t mean they take that stance on all their games. Until it’s officially stated who actually did the censoring, Nintendo is still the most likely suspect.

While I have no interest in this game series whatsoever, I think it’s very silly that people would feel it necessary to include lingerie in a survival horror game. If you’re going to sell sexuality, package it up and DLC that Magikarp.

On one hand a lot of FF purists complained about the costumes as being inappropriate for Fatal Frame which could’ve been a big reason for this. On the other hand it is ridiculous that they removed them from an M rated game and probably will lower sales unfortunately. I kind of expected this from NOA but I’m surprised Nintendo Europe removed them since Europe is much more liberal about sexual content.
