Aonuma Briefly Talks Zelda’s 30th Anniversary And Zelda Wii U

In a Famitsu feature for the The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, which we reviewed earlier this week, there were details about the upcoming 3DS release and also a short interview with the game’s producers. Within the interview, Famitsu asked Eiji Aonuma about plans for Zelda’s 30th Anniversary next year, and he responded with the following:

“This year we wanted a Majora’s Mask concert, so it is not impossible that there may be a 30th anniversary concert next year. However, as we are trying to complete the new Zelda as fast as possible, that is all that is on our minds. That being said, we hope something will take form for the 30th anniversary. It is especially important to a producer of the series, so I hope to give something everyone can look forward to next year.”

When asked further about the progress of Zelda Wii U, he advised that the team are doing their best -“We’re doing our best. Everyday we improve it bit by bit. It is something that requires plenty of time, however, so please believe in us and wait.”

Zelda Wii U is due to be released next year, however the date – or even which quarter it will be released in, is still unknown.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>And yet if they released some information about their game at this point, people would still complain yet again to missing features and what not even though the game is not complete yet>>>

    1. I hope your just joking and you don’t really think that cause seriously, they would never dump 4 years of work, just to focus on a port of an old game instead.

      1. I think what he’s trying to say is that Zelda Wii U could get scrapped from the Wii U but rebuilt for the NX and that Twilight Princess HD could be the replacement Zelda game. And if you think about it, it does sound very believable considering the Wii U’s current situation

        1. Oh ok. I believe they will do a twilight princess deal. If so the Wii U version is probably very nearly done, and they are putting most of there resources into the NX version to finish it for a launch title for the NX next year. The only reason they aren’t releasing the Wii U version may be so that it can have a dual release on Wii U and NX. I don’t think they would completely scrap the Wii U version. Why wouldn’t they make money off of it on the Wii U, and release a better build for NX? It wouldn’t make sense to just scrap it. But that’s complete speculation, with only some evidence.

          1. Oh I agree totally with your assessment. I too don’t think that Nintendo will abandon us Wii U owners like that and not give us a true new Zelda title for that platform. I think it will definitely end up being a cross-platform release but I’m just saying that it’s not too far out of the realm of possibly of being just a NX only Zelda title nor would I really be surprised if it was

            1. I would be very surprised if it was NX only. They have promised and promised, and confirmed as early as in that famitsu thingy, that it would be for Wii U. They gain nothing, in fact they lose a lot, by not putting it on the Wii U. Plus in the past what they have done is dual release. But I guess it is possible, just not very. Most likely I will buy an NX at launch, especially if Zelda is for both, and most definitely if it’s only for the NX. I will most likely always buy there consoles because I like there exclusives, and I can afford to buy more than one system. Though I do hope the recent rumors are true, I’m always open for high improvement.

            2. Part of me hopes it’s a duel release so I can play it on my WiiU, but I have a bad feeling they will push it to the NX to force us to buy the next console.

IDK, that would be very, very shady and shitty… I can’t believe Nintendo has really degraded that far…We’re going to get a WiiU release, even if it’s not the definitive version…i hope..

              1. Personally I won’t be buying it on the Wii U, but buying the NX and getting the deffinitive version. Assuming it’s gonna be for the NX at all.

                1. That’s what I mean…IF NX releases in a year or so, ZeldaU is positioned to be a launch title…Exactly what Nintendo would need to hook people like me, even if there’s another game drought… I don’t like it.

                2. mostly the developers are doing there best for the game hey i wonder if this game can be compatible with amiibo figures for the anniversary.

next year link will be 30 years old.

                    1. And for some reason I feel like I’m one of the only people who enjoyed that game. I thought it was really fun. I’d play it again if it didn’t look like shit on my HD TV…too many Jaggies for me to enjoy it. :/

                      1. Skyward Sword was a very fun game, but it did have some problems. Mainly the motion controls needed a little work, and it was too small and linear. Things this new Zelda doesn’t have problems with:)

                      2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

You’re not alone. Many enjoy Skyward Sword. It’s most likely just a very loud minority on the internet hating the game.

                        1. Since 2012, the Zelda U One? or 2012 Skyword Sword? if Zelda U Started in 2012, they are taking a very long time. 2012 + 2016 = 4 Years. if they delay it again.. 2012 + 2017 = 5 years in development.

                        2. We know it will come out next year but they aren’t doing a good job killing rumours. There are still retards who thinks the game wont come to Wii U and only NX. Others say both. It’s not even sure NX will come out next year so I wish people would stop talking like they know exactly what’s gonna happen.

                        4. Just come out and say it dude.
Its NX only. I really hope they went back and gave it the super start next gen treatment this franchise deserves.
HD Twilight is still a win

                        5. Concerts are boring (and NEVER anywhere near where I live). I say, make some sort of HD remastered Zelda collection game for Wii U to celebrate the 30th anniversary. To this day, the coolest pre-order bonus was that Zelda collection Gamecube game that people got for pre-ordering The Wind Waker at Gamestop back in the day. Make something similar to that game, but with HD graphics or something. And for the love of god, make it a physical game!

                        6. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Concerts of video game music are indeed awesome but… It’s only good for a small number of people. A celebration of 25 years, 30 years, 50 years, etc should be something that can reach the majority of fans, not a small number of them. Oh but if this was Mario, NintenD’OH! would do everything in their power to make that reach millions.

This is why fucking Disney is way better than Nintendo. Not only does Disney try to cater to the majority of their fans, instead of just little kiddies, they care about every one of their big name characters/franchises & try to give them all nice anniversaries.

                        7. I guess I had been blocking Zelda U news so much that I missed where it went from TBD to 2016.

It’ll get here when it gets here, no rush as it’s already late as is. It’s not like it would help the current game drought much.

BUT depending how the NX plays into the release will have me decide if I continue buying into Nintendo or not.
