It looks as though the first edition Pokémon trading cards are going to be revisited in 2016 for the 20th Birthday of the Pokémon franchise, based on information on the official Japanese Pokémon TCG website.
The Pokémon card game starter pack will contain 60 cards with a manual and a collectors coin, and for now we only know that they will be available in Japan. The information section on the website, when translated from Japanese, refers to the starter pack that was released in 1996. Although this may not be an exact reprint, it will simply ‘revisit’ the original deck.
The first edition began in 1996, so it’s a great way to bring some nostalgia back to Pokémon fans to celebrate 20 years of Pokémon, along with the 2DS Pokémon bundles. Hopefully they will also be released in the West.

Well, they are TRADING cards, after all. Collecting the cards is part of the fun too, I guess, especially in the case of Pokémon.

Thought I had lost mine too years ago, but it somehow showed up again. After that, I put it somewhere safe so I would always know where it is.

Certainly not in best condition, and it’s faulty too (left border too thick, right one entirely missing, hah), but I still love it.

Hmm, considering it was a promotional card you could only get at the theaters, and not through actual booster packs or anything, I kinda doubt it.
But you never know, maybe they’ll do it.

Not gonna happen. Anything it might have been in is long gone at this point since I’ve moved around a lot since it was lost & haven’t kept much of anything. If it has been found, it’s someone else’s card now because it hasn’t been found by me.
