Play Nintendo has continued its Super Play Time series with episode 4 covering Splatoon yet again. The episode, titled “Get Kraken with Pro Tips,” is pretty laid back compared to the others, as host J.C. simply jumps into a couple Ranked Battles and gives tips for playing as they become relevant. In these more hardcore modes, J.C. really pushes the concept of flanking, or surrounding the other team, in order to catch them off guard. The video is worth a gander if you fancy Ranked Battles like I do.

UGH these videos… Nintendo why must you make things so cheesy that I can’t take them serious.
(I’m mentally exhausted today so bare with me…)
Since Nintendo has brought Splatoon into the professional world of eSports in Japan. I am surprised by the lack of seriousness in their “Tips and Tricks” content. With more than $1 million in prize money at stake and the beneficial publicity that eSports could bring to Nintendo, why are we subjected to ridiculous videos of “JC from Nintendo”. I mean, they don’t even treat SSB like this when marketing it to the public.
Sometimes (okay a lot of the time) I wonder who is approving content like this. It seems so polar opposite than from Nintendo’s overall strategy to market to a broader audience.
I agree Nintendo cant be taken seriously anymore. It’s become to the point where if your in the video game aisle of a retail store and there is a cute girl there as well browsing through games you almost never want to be seen looking a Wii U games. You look at PC games, Xbox or PlayStation you might be getting that pussy but if you look at Wii shit your forever friendzone, almost less of a man and it’s sad because Nintendo games can be enjoyable.
What’s hard for me to accept is that in the eyes of the majority of gamers: you aren’t viewed as a “real” gamer if you only play Nintendo games.
I own a PS4, Xbox One, Vita, Wii U, multiple 3DS’s (blah blah blah) and I always prefer playing Nintendo games over others like Halo, Destiny, Uncharted, SW Battlefront etc. If I had to choose one company and play only their games for the rest of my life it would ABSOLUTELY be Nintendo.
I am a gamer and I have loved nintendo since my first gameboy. Now I’m an adult gamer and I still love Nintendo. Nintendo won the hearts of millions because it was one of the first to do what it did and did it successfully. But most of those millions of people have now grown up and Nintendo’s childish marketing for it’s amazing games isn’t going to win back the hearts, minds and wallets of it’s first customers who are now more mature. The market has now become so saturated with great games and other consoles that even young gamers are having a hard time seeing the appeal of purchasing a Nintendo console over its competitors… and videos like this aren’t helping.
…But I digress.
