GameTrailers is closing its doors after 13 years of providing gamers with content and news coverage in a way that no other website has done before. The staff was informed of the news just a few hours before it was made public on NeoGAF and Twitter.
No word was given why the site is shutting down. It is also unknown what the fate of its staff will be. We wish the staff at GameTrailers all the best and good luck to them. Feel free to tell us your memories of GameTrailers over the years in the comments.

Why because every where else feels so fucking alienated. Site is idk home. Speaking of which, how in the hell did I find this place?
The main problem with this site doesn’t even have to do with the site itself. It’s the ignorant ass people that post their stupid ass premature comments. The comment sections literally kill my brain cells. This site might have some of the most stupid and immature people I have ever seen. And I’m not just talking about the low lives that waste their time going on a Nintendo site just to hate.
And finally that bitch that ruins the moment. Congratulations!

It’s a habit. At the end of the day everyone is merely having fucking fun with their dumb ways of commenting. Pretty sure places like Ign has worse.
IGN probably does. The thing that fustrates me though is i believe alot of them are serious. I rarely see any constructive criticism. It’s usually bandwagon hate or just ignorance. I love nintendo; they’re literally the only consoles i’ve owned. That’s gonna change now because i can’t get everything I want from Nintendo anymore, sadly. I hope the NX puts them back at the top. Its such a shame Nintendo is stuck with this stigma of childishness, esp in a generation of graphic and gore whores.
That is exactly how I feel. I’ve been gaming on Nintendo platforms almost exclusively for the majority of my gaming years. I literally never owned any non Nintendo platform up until last year when I bought a PS4 and built a gaming PC. I really liked Nintendo and I used to come on sites like this to say almost nothing but positivity about them. I thought PS3 and Xbox 360 were good, but I just believed Nintendo was better. I’d say around maybe 2010 was when my opinion started to drastically change. Seeing new games come out that looked great and wondering why they didn’t come to Wii. That was pretty disappointing. All those times I was playing the Wii and being oblivious to all the great games on other platforms. I can’t help but look at my past self and laugh at how delusional I was. Nintendo has just pushed me so far away from what I used to be. I’ve been viewed as a hater by how much I seem to criticise them. Which is probably understandable. But I really don’t want to. I hope the NX turns out well because I want to see them do better. As of right now, I no longer have a Nintendo system. I am considering maybe getting another Wii U if the new Zelda is good because I love that franchise more than any other of Nintendo’s. But I’m more concerned with how the NX will be. If it doesn’t fix my complaints, sadly, I probably will not buy it as much as I hate to say it. At least not when it launches anyways. I don’t really crave Nintendo games as much as I used to so honestly, skipping this next system would not be that hard for me. In fact, I think it’s harder for me to consider purchasing consoles in the future now that I have gotten into PC gaming. I do like the PS4 and can’t wait to play some big releases like Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn. I won’t lie that I did start playing my PS4 a lot less after I built my PC and I can understand how some people feel about this gen. There’s just a lack of must have exclusives. And sorry if this comment came out too long. I kind of have a habit of overdoing it sometimes when it comes to voicing my opinion. I can imagine commenters here groan whenever they see my username because they have to scroll past a great wall. Lol.
That being said, this site has many great moments. Some of the discussions and banter in the comments are hilarious. This site is like a brother/ sister: You have some bad moments, but damn do you love the good ones. This site wouldn’t be as great if it weren’t for some of the personas in the comments. Maybe that’s why you can’t stay away.

Didn’t GT have AVGN videos in his early days? I used them a lot around 2006 to 2008… It makes me sad to see them suddenly close down like this :(
I think that was Screwattack. I could be wrong though.
It was screwattack, but GT had a contract with Screwattack in which the AVGN videos would go up on GT first, then the SA site. That was way back in the day, almost 10 years ago.
I hate to see them shut down, but I never paid them much attention. They should have been more unique honestly. They were trying too hard to be like IGN or Gamespot.

To be completely honest, I haven’t even touched GT since 2008 when I used to download trailers for games from them off itunes. They just kind of trailed off into heaps of clickbait videos and top 10s after that, and really haven’t been needed to watch trailers since. It makes complete sense that they’re finally shutting down.

Sad, this was the place were I first saw the work of Monty, I really liked their reviews, and I loved the GT Retrospects, I just wished they had updated them more often. I wish the best to all of them, specially Brandon Jones.
I have not much but some memories of GT… I remember watching their reviews on demand via Comcast and checking every month to see what they reviewed. Then hearing the intro to their review until it got stuck in my head

I often times forget about the fact that people that run these different sites are actually WORKING. That it’s a job. I sometimes think they’re all just sitting at home and doing it just for fun. I suppose it’s because I have a hard time believing that anything on the internet can be considered a real job. But I suppose it is.
