Ubisoft has today confirmed that it is hard at work on the next instalment in the Watch Dogs franchise. The company wouldn’t say when it’s due or what platforms it is for, but if it did come to a Nintendo platform then it would likely be for the upcoming NX system. The company announced that Watch Dogs 2, Ghost Recon, South Park, For Honor, & a new service game will be coming to consoles and PC by March 2017.
Initial targets for 2016-17
In 2016-17 the Company expects to achieve sales of around €1,700 million, non-IFRS operating income of approximately €230 million and strong free cash flow generation. Ubisoft will launch a very high-quality line-up, including For Honor ® , South ParkTM the Fractured but WholeTM, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon ® WildLands, the next instalment of Watchdogs ® , and a new high-potential AAA brand with strong digital live services. Growth also will be driven by further increases in revenues for the digital segment and the back catalog.

Cool. I look forward to it.
I Look forward to the delay exclusive to Nintendo consoles! :D
Didn’t they won’t make it available on Nintendo consoles?
You mean the sequel, right? Yeah, Ubisoft doesn’t have a very good relationship with Nintendo, so NX will probably have to be up to Ubisoft’s (kina unrealistic) standards to make it.
Cute, you think Ubisoft has standards?
Ubi hates nintendo right now. Thet’re like “We don’t get enough sales on nintendo’s console even though we released the game 6 months later than it was released on other consoles, downgraded the game, refuse to give it any DLC but still expect huge sales cause we’re UBISOFT”
maybe it well be released for the NX. cause Nintendo is trying to get Third party back. I hope…
I’m sure it’s not coming to NX if they’ll play their cards right.
GTFO NX Ubi. You guys tried supporting the U with mediocrity, don’t bother coming to Nintendo until you know it’s a solid platform. That way we don’t have to hear you complain and blame it on the consumer.
Ubisoft will only put it on NX if Nintendo can prove it has solved its third party situation. If Nintendo doesn’t do what they need to do, Ubisoft support just won’t be there for NX. Ubisoft is one of the big third party developers, and it would do Nintendo good to have them onboard all the way.
Ubisoft crossed Nintendo and its fanbase, not the other way around, first they delayed Rayman Legends for 7 months to have it launch on XBOX first and then they released Watch Dogs everywhere else and just delayed the Wii U version for 6 months, delivered half-assed port with tons of performance issues, refused to give it any DLC and then complained when it didn’t sell; well of course it didn’t sell, everyone who cared to get it already had a better version of it on another console.
Because they weren’t confident in the Wii U, especially since they were better options (namely PS4 and Xbox One). The Wii U started off poorly (kinda still is) and no one wanted it, can’t really blame Ubisoft for not investing in something that wasn’t having any success. However I do agree they made some truly stupid decisions as you’ve mentioned, they were expecting good results for little effort.
What Nintendo needs to do is show that the NX deserves every effort that Ubisoft can put into, instead of creating another console no one wants to support.
Um…they kinda announced their open support for the Wii U in the beginning. Why tell us that, announce one GREAT franchise + one pretty good-looking game for the system to come BEFORE everyone else and then suddenly, do a full 360 & delay one game ’til the other systems were “Ready” and delay the other & deliver half-assed-ness months later? It might have been because of ZombiU’s poor sales but I can Almost guarantee (keyword: Almost) the Wii U would have had a couple more millions in sales thanks to [Watch_Dogs] (with effort) & Rayman Legends alone.
Just thinking about that now, I regret buying R6 Siege now.. LET THE PROTEST AGAINST UBI CONTINUE! :P
Oh yeah, you’re right there. I guess the proper words I should have used would be “lost confidence in the Wii U”. Indeed, they made a silent retreat from Wii U support and Wii U owners deserve to hold them to it. Though this will most likely be a lesson to Ubisoft to be cautious with supporting Nintendo in the future however.
I wish they had at least picked a better Wii U exclusive launch title than ZombiU (I played it. Didn’t like it at all, in my honest opinion). ZombiU was nothing to write home about, other than its gamepad gimmicks.
By that logic then they should have released Rayman first then have the XB1 and PS4 versions come out 7 months later.
Here’s how Nintendo improves that situation:
– The NX matches the other consoles’ performance. Multiplat games tend to use the leading console saleswise as a standard, and that standard tends to stick until the next wave. No point in outperforming.
– Introduce standard native functions like voice chat, achievements and the like. Make releasing an NX version as easy on the developer as possible.
– Nintendo gives themselves a solid launch lineup of 1st/2nd-party games. They get sales momentum through this, and it gives 3rd-parties sales motivations.
– A timed exclusive may be the way to get attention. A Bayonetta 2 situation doesn’t prove multiplats will sell, but a timed exclusive will help form said image.
From here, the NX could spend its life regaining that support. The following hardware could then launch with both strong 1st and 3rd-party software. Hopefully this is also a situation where the next Xbox & Playstation launch 2020 and Nintendo’s launches 2021.
– Introduce standard native functions like voice chat, achievements and the like. Make releasing an NX version as easy on the developer as possible
That has always been up to the developer. There were 3rd Party games with that function but it was on a game to game basis. Even though not native for the whole system it did not stop the developers from including.
– A timed exclusive may be the way to get attention. A Bayonetta 2 situation doesn’t prove multiplats will sell, but a timed exclusive will help form said image.
No platform manufacturer should be doing this. Either 3rd party developers want to make a game or not. Should not be buying a game to be made first on the platform.
Hopefully this is also a situation where the next Xbox & Playstation launch 2020 and Nintendo’s launches 2021.
There will be a new Xbox and Playstation before that time frame. Sony president has said this generation would not be that long.
Ubisoft never left Nintendo they only support Nintendo with the one game that sells on Nintendo console for them at the moment and like it or not it is Just Dance. Activision still make games for Wii U just not the games people want. Warner Bros still make Wii U games too but same as Activision. It boils down to money. Nintendo is not the type of company that pays for mulitplatform games. Exclusive games, yes, but multiplat games no.
Working hard on that season pass and preorder bonus too I bet. Lol.

Hope I can buy it on nx. I liked it on wii u despite the frame rate
We knew this like a year ago….Ubisoft says they only make games they turn into a franchise….
Hopefully they do a little better this time round. The massive marketing campaign got everybody so hyped for the first one and it was such a let down in comparison……
Never got around to playing the first one… I have such a massive back log right now XD
Here’s hoping the sequel isn’t as downgraded if it makes it on a Nintendo console again though >_>
Cool to hear. The franchise has some neat ideas, they just need better execution.
As others have said, though, it probably won’t come to Nintendo consoles, sadly. Ubisoft has some great franchises that I’d love to see on Nintendo systems.
I didn’t care for the first game.
I remember when they first showed off the original game, and I was really excited for it. But it just ended up being a big disappointment.
Maybe if the mechanics are more fleshed out and the world and characters aren’t so drab and boring.. it could be good.
I played the PS4 version btw. Never bothered trying the U version since it came out so late haha.
Honestly, I just don’t trust Ubi anymore. Their quality control needs serious work.
The problem with their quality control is shareholders want their money sooner than later. They want the deadlines met. That calendar 4th Quarter has become too important for video games.
Ubisoft confirmed that there won’t be a new Assassin’s Creed this year so I assume Watch Dogs 2 is going to replace it. And based on the reviews, AC Syndicate turned out rather well. And Rainbow Six Seige is gathering positive feedback as well. So it looks like they’re improving after all. Watch Dogs 2 could turn out to be pretty great if they keep it up.
Fingers crossed…
I was never a big AC fan, but I’m glad they’re finally taking a breather on that series.
Anyway, I hope you’re right. If Watch Dogs 2 is good I’ll be a happy camper.
Also, off topic – but Sony teased Crash Bandicoot (again). I hope it amounts to something! Crash games used to be so fun. If true, I just hope they change that strange redesign that Activision gave him… D:
The game was fun when the fuzz were chasing you only to send them flying with the speed posts
“Ubisoft Confirms It’s Working On Watch Dogs 2”! Gamers confirms nobody cares!
“& a new service game” – why don’t they just say “The Division”?
