The official site is up for the free-to-download 3DS and Wii U title, Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge. The game marks Nintendo’s first real attempt at creating an amiibo-centric game–because no one should count Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival–and as such, requires at least one Mario or Donkey Kong series amiibo figure to play.
Each tapped amiibo unlocks a new set of courses specific to that character’s in-game abilities. You can find a list of compatible amiibo figures along with an explanation of their powers on the official website, here. You’ll also notice mention of the early access deal with GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy. Each retailer will be offering download codes for Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge with any amiibo purchased between March 25th and the game’s public launch date of April 28th.

There’s a Donkey Kong amiibo lineup now? When were people gonna tell me!? K. Rool and Lanky had better be part of it!
Hah, just kidding, but really, there’s only Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong from the Sm4sh line, we don’t have a lot of options.
And still, the Mario series figures are the only ones getting significant use. When are we going to get definitive uses for Little Mac, Captain Falcon, Pit, Ness/Lucas, etc.? Mine are gathering dust!
how many of these amiibo’s can you use or play with?
Well, it looks like at least the 10 we see in the thumbnail pic.
I HOPE there are more- otherwise what else did I buy Duck Hunt and Game & Watch for?
For the toys maybe?
The Duck Hunt figure is like my prized possession.
But yeah a virtual windup toy version of DH would be pretty great.

Dude I thought you meant the Mario Party Amiibo, it accepts the Smash Amiibo as well as the Classic/Modern Mario.
You were going to leave me sorely disappointed. Either way I’m disappointed as I expected ALL Amiibo to work.
Maybe they’ll restock some older or harder to find Amiibo now. I never grabbed Diddy Kong, and Rosalina was a nightmare to find in Canada (thanks for the epic fail, Target).
I like that this game exists, but they really should broaden the appeal and flesh the game out more. Make use of all Amiibo in a Disney Infinities kind of way. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve stopped trying to ‘catch em all’ with Amiibo because most are useless. Only get them now for the character / figure appeal of cool cheap(ish) video game collectible.
And expanding the line up wouldn’t hurt. Now that Smash is almost finished with Amiibo, how about a 30th Zelda series? I’d like to boost my Hyrule Warriors line up with a more kick-ass (blonde) Zelda, Impa, Darunia, Ruto, maybe a pixel Link, beast Ganon, etc. Or a 20th Anniversary Pokemon line with nods to the original cartoon. I’d snag Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie and James Amiibo. Get on this stuff Nintendo! Redoing Kirby is great, but we need MORE!
Apparently all amiibo will work with the game. However those outside of the Mario/Donkey Kong universe will be displayed as a ‘Robot’ instead of their own rendition.
