Japan: Pokemon GO Beta Test Has Started

Japanese gamers can get a taste of the upcoming Pokemon GO on mobile platforms today as the beta for the real world Pokemon title has launched in Japan. However, it is not easy to get into the beta. The Pokemon Company will invite players into the beta test using a special lottery based system. If you don’t get in straight away then there’s no need to panic as they will be opening up the field test to more users. Pokemon GO is expected to launch worldwide later this year.

“From today, Japanese residents are invited to field test Pokemon GO. We’ll give you information about the lottery system and invitation based on your device and experience of real-world gaming you’ve had so far. Those invited will be sent the details via email, however for those who have not received an invitation please stay excited as we are gradually expanding the field test.”

  1. Looks like I was right about them going with the same invite only method used with Ingress. They’ll keep it with just the lottery test groups for a while and then expand it to “reach X level and get Y number of invites to share with your friends” before going full open release.
