Rumor: Mother 3 Is Still Being Localized For Virtual Console On Wii U

It sounds like Nintendo is still planning to finally bring Mother 3 to Western territories. A localized version of the role-playing game is still in the works and might see release within the next couple of months, according to rumormonger Emily Rogers. Mother 3 made its original debut in 2006 for Game Boy Advance. It was re-released last December via the Japanese Virtual Console on Wii U.

  1. I think I might be one of the only people who has no interest in this game. Why is it so loved? I really don’t get it. The Final Fantasy series was so much better back in the day.

      1. Literally no one thinks that EarthBound Beginnings is better than Mother 3.
The only reasons to love EarthBound more than Mother 3 are nostalgia and/or preferring EarthBound’s less direct story. Mother 3 has objectively better gameplay and smoother presentation.
Not to mention its story, which is an absolute masterwork.
Grossly overrated? For a game that hasn’t even been officially released in the West??
        How is that even possible?!
        Get over yourself!

                  1. No, I’ve actually been here a long while. I just usually don’t comment because MNN’s comment sections are almost always poisonous.
Case in point: I can’t criticize other’s opinions because “that’s not nice!”

                    1. Sure you can. I do it here all the time. Just do it in a polite way. You don’t need to fly off the handle and make people be like idiots because they don’t share the same opinion as you.

                      1. At no point did I say “you can’t think that Mother 3 is overrated!”
He posted his extreme opinion (backed with zero logic), so I posted mine (backed with plenty of logic).
That’s typically how these things go.
But the one who’s been most criticized here is me, for some reason.

                1. The first two are amazing, quirky stories, fun gameplay, all that good stuff. Maaaaybe Mother 3 just isn’t your cup of tea, but dang, I thought the story was amplified to like 11, WAY quirky, and even containing moments that were very satisfyingly sad. And even if that doesn’t wet your whistle, the gameplay is just THAT much better, yeah? I mean, the battle’s are so much more interactive, I had a lot MORE fun playing it than Earthbound. It’s just your opinion, but I don’t think calling Mother 3 “grossly overrated” is really a great idea. I don’t know. I guess if it does come out, give it another try? Maybe you’ll have a better time.

                1. Well, to be fair I’ve never played through Mother 3. I’ve only played through the original game. And I do think it’s a good game, and I enjoyed playing it as a kid. I just remember Final Fantasy 2 and 3 on SNES (actually final fantasy 4 and 6) were both far superior IMO. I also thought Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen was superior, and that game never gets any love. Oh well, to each their own I suppose. I can see the appeal if your into comedy and jokes in your video games. I always liked the more serious tone (as a kid).

            1. I’ll believe it when I see it. Other than that, anything that comes out of Emily’s mouth is obvious bullshit unless proven otherwise (she only got lucky with Paper Mario once).

                  1. ‘Ignorant’ is politically incorrect now? He stated “she only got lucky once with Paper Mario.” It was factually incorrect, likely due to his ignorance of the facts. I corrected him.
                    It’s not an opinion.

                      1. Why do you call people names? Aren’t you able to present your opinions in a better manner?
Oh, sorry, that must be my logic tantrum acting up. I’ll go back to my corner and think about how right I am.

                1. But she have been proven wrong at least several times. Remember when she said Retro wasn’t working on a Donkey Kong Returns sequel? And that was until Tropical Freeze got announced. The point I’m making is that we shouldn’t treat her like she’s the most reliable leaker on the planet.

                          1. Uh, just for context, let’s take a look at all the NON-rumor reasons to believe Mother 3 will soon be released in the West.

                            1. EarthBound was released on virtual console in 2013 against all odds, to fantastic sales.
                            2. EarthBound Beginnings was released on virtual console in 2015 against all odds, to fantastic sales.
                            3. Nintendo jokes about two games at E3 2014: MOTHER 3 and Star Fox. Not long after, a new Star Fox game was finally announced.
                            4. We are in the year of MOTHER 3’s tenth anniversary.
                            5. A Miiverse siege continually exhibits massive fan demand.
                            6. The game has been re-released on the Japanese Wii U virtual console.

So I dunno, man. I’d say the cattle are pretty well reasoned this time.

-||I’ll give her some credit for not being as useless as this Tilmen creature||-

                        1. Emily is a mere speculator, who uses Twitter to spread her guesses. I don’t get why some people give her so much credit.

                            1. You posted a bunch of bullshit that she said after she heard about it on reddit or from one of the people she pesters for info thats already been released lol wow

                  1. Dude LOL this is a news website that used a “rumor monger” and her twitter account as a source. This website and Emily Rogers are both pretty much useless

                    1. Except she’s been right about just about every rumor. Does her insider status make you feel small?
She’s less useless than the guy making fun of everyone in the comment section for talking about a credible rumor.

                    1. I am still bruce lee just changed my name i still and will forever comment how i am and long as i am not a drone to any of the gaming companies then im good ya stupid shit

                    1. I said “apparently”. I’m not sure; I’ve only heard about this person this month and others are telling me that her credibility is really bad. Also, as far as I’m aware, until today, her Twitter account was locked, so I couldn’t confirm anything with my own eyes.

              1. I played about half way through the one that Tomato localized unofficially. I can’t wait to play it again if the rumors are true.

              2. Please oh please let this be true. My hope is that those happy-asses over at NoA don’t censor the crap out of it, because I think Kumatora will get the worst of it and censoring would butcher her character.

If the official translation stays close to the fan translation, I will gladly pay for it.

                  1. Oh hell no. That was easily one of the most messed-up sections of the game.

                    And I loved it.

I hate that place gameplay-wise though because I always get stuck grinding for several levels in order to stand a chance against the Barrier Trio. I could do without that.

                  2. With how censor happy Nintendo of America is, don’t get your hopes up that it’ll hit the States uncensored.

                    1. Honestly I’d be surprised if they did, considering they let 10 years go by for fans to get attached to the non-censored version of the game.
It would be pretty sketchy of them to heavily censor it. Besides, what would the point be? There’s nothing explicit and very few things (arguably nothing) that wouldn’t be covered by a T rating, which both EarthBound games currently have now anyway.

                      1. Well don’t be surprised since Fire Emblem Fates is also rated T for Teen with very few things being sexually explicit yet here we are. :/ Same with Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. And Bravely Second. Oh & then there is the worst example of all: Fatal Frame 5, which was an M rated game, with giving America Zelda & Samus outfits instead of the lingerie outfits of the Japanese version. :/

                        1. There’s nothing sexual in MOTHER 3 though… even the Magypsies aren’t *actually* transvestites.
The closest we get is the possibly-seen-as “suggestive” PSI-hot spring scene (which, again, is not actually suggestive but I expect will be clarified a bit upon localization) and the Porky statues in the Toilet Dungeon.

              3. Now THIS is the kind of game that I WILL download, and love! Wouldn’t it be cool if this DID release, and at the same time, Nintendo released a physical game with all 3 Mother games on one disc? What WOULDN’T be cool is if they did it AFTER I already downloaded the digital version. But I’d still buy the physical one. I downloaded the first two on my Wii U. The first game was so hard that I didn’t get very far before I had all I can take of it. It was one of those games where I was fantasizing about the Game Genie. I NEEDED HELP!

              5. people are going into the mother series in the wrong mindset. First off it’s not supposed to be like final fantasy or any similar rpgs. The creators who made pokemon did this first. Pokemon wouldn’t exist if this wasn’t made. It’s supposed to be an adventure game focusing on a great story with likeable characters and music. Don’t compare it to RPG games and don’t bash it if you’ve never played it and just watch videos or listen to negative comments. The mother series is one of the best series ever made and will always be.
