UK gaming magazine GamesTM recently caught up with a number of small independent developers to find out what they want from the forthcoming Nintendo NX system. However, it does seem as though the majority of them are just as in the dark about the platform as we are. Still, that didn’t stop them from voicing what they would want to see from Nintendo’s next generation platform.
The Wii U was actually a great platform to develop on. With Guacamelee, having the second screen on the GamePad was a perfect place to put the game’s mini-map, and made the game a great fit for the platform. Having the ability to play games right on the controller itself was an amazing feature for times when someone else in the household was making use of the television. While this was never a problem for Drinkbox, I believe that the limited power of the system made it difficult for some third parties to bring their games from PS4/Xbox One to the Wii U, causing the system to have less than ideal third-party support. – Smith
In general, I’d like to see a console that has comparable or more power than PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and with familiar input systems. For an independent like Rebellion, you want to support as many platforms as you can, because you want as many people to play your games as possible. As a developer, of course it’s exciting to work with completely new paradigms but we all have to consider the economic realities too. I’d like to see Nintendo putting in more effort to work with other third parties so that the NX isn’t just a great earner for Nintendo, but can be a great earner for everyone else. – Kingsley
Beside more power, which everyone assumes it will have, the main improvement we would like to see are on the side of the Nintendo submission processes, support and tools. Everyone who ever had to create a Wii U emanual knows what we are talking about. – Goersch
We are hopeful that whatever platform Nintendo makes takes steps towards the future in big ways. More horsepower, the integration of VR in some way, platform support for diff erent business models, and an easier publishing process would all be very welcomed. The Wii U certainly posed challenges for developers on a lot of fronts, but Nintendo is a company that the development community will support as long as the opportunity exists. It is hard to be critical, so I hope the new platform paves the way for success for everyone over the course of its lifetime. – Kirk
I don’t know enough to give a yes or no answer here. I do know that Nintendo is capable of creating some amazing, groundbreaking hardware that will get people excited and interested enough to at least consider a purchase. You know that Nintendo will bring their amazing games and franchises in a big way, and if they can get decent third-party support rolling then the games will be there as well. Things can change quickly; not so long ago everyone was saying consoles are dead and this generation would be a bust. Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth!
MK: I would like to see Nintendo once again genuinely engage with third-party developers. Sure Nintendo has the characters we love and always will, but in today’s climate you must support the development community in order to have a healthy ecosystem. I look forward to seeing how Nintendo does this on NX.
CK: I’d love to see NX become a platform that publishers and developers can rely on, so they can invest and make great games on NX right now and so they can keep on making great games for in the future.
GS: Simply that it has powerful enough specs to compete with the current generation of consoles. This might prove challenging if they have a handheld standalone component to the console, but I really hope they can pull it off!
AG: I would like to see fewer gadgets, and a button smashing-only Mario Party.
Thanks, Paidenthusiast

One statement does not include who made it, while the others do…
Not like I’m gonna care or even know anyone of the other names, just seems weird one is missing….
Oh yeah, seems pretty obvious what those developers want, it’s what practically everybody wants…
Good ideas bout the submissions process though, I wouldn’t have thought that…
Why the fuck is everybody talking about VR?! VR will NOT come in the next 5 years! It’s way too expensive right now. And it’s the real gimmick, it doesn’t change the way games are played at all. It’s just a screen duck-taped on your eyes to expand the field of view.
When I imagine VR, I don’t think screen-to-the-face, I think whole-room-intergration….
If anyone could do it, or at least prototype it (for gaming purposes), Nintendo would be the one I would like see try…
Where I see VR making an impact is, in addition to reaching the point of affordability, getting past the whole “first person immersion” thing. Oddly enough, I see a 3rd-person game doing more to sell VR if the player’s view is handled in the right way, but no developer has really done that yet.
Right! Think real holograms instead of screen on your face!
All sounds good, except for the VR stuff. I couldn’t possibly care less about VR. It’s funny to me that people want Nintendo to ditch “gimmicks”, yet they want them to use VR… which is a gimmick.
Incoming from Nintendo! “We at Nintendo are considering these suggestions, however it would raise our production costs and our aim is to remain affordable. So we will THINK about it.” <.<
I not interested in VR myself. It reminds me of that show in Nickelodeon “Are You Afraid of the Dark” some virus trying to take over the kids brain.
It kind of worries me how there’s still so many companies in the dark when it comes to the NX. Games take a considerable amount of time to develop. So you’d think by now that Nintendo would have sent every game developer NX dev kits so they can start making NX games. At this point, it doesn’t sound like there’s going to be many games available for the NX launch other than some first-party titles. Sure hope things change.
I’m so worried about the NX. It’s releasing 1 year from now and we won’t find anything out this e3. Nobody seems to know anything about it or even what “IT” is.
Should I as a fan and consumer be concerned? Maybe, maybe not.
Should you? Yes! Am I? Hell Yes!!!
Ghaaaaa! Nintendo, better come hard ho!
Yo peridot gem you can get destroyed yet again the devs know what the nx needs to do
The hell? I never got destroyed. I never even fucking mentioned the NX shit for brains. Now you’re just trying too hard.
Yes you have been destroyed by me several times i used facts some of the times and or based what i say on nintendos past decisions and you have been destroyed by what the devs said because i always said if the nx isnt uptodate with the competition then nintendo is shit and you always said how do you know this or that and i said i didnt but that nintendo need to look at the competition and copy what they are doing because apparently something is working for them
No I never got destroyed by you. What a load of shit. All you’ve been saying in all of our arguments was Nintendo is garbage.
Yes from the very beginning i have been saying nintendo sucks but besides that i have had valid points saying that they need to look at the competition shit buy a ps4 and xbone look at all of the features of each console and have some of the same features or all of the same features with their own stuff and see if they can improve on everything shit look at blogs and websites and write down what the fans want from a nintendo console and put in what you can that is reasonable and wont cost a lot of money and get the best people they can to work and sort everything out and when it comes to games talk to all major 3rd parties in what kind of power they want in a console and make it easty to make games on the system and port games etc etc and what they want should be more than enough for the smaller devs and make the console at the very least as strong as the xbone up to stronger then the ps4 or if not then maybe sonewhere in the middle and for the handheld make it at least as strong as the vita which should be extremely easy or much stronger to where you can play games in 600p or up to 720p which would be crazy and of course advertise the shit out of each nintendo should spend 500 million dollars up to 1 billion dollars on just advertising on tv trying to advertise on all the commercials they can afford with that amount of money and they should spam the commercials on the channels and im sure there is more that im forgetting that they can actually compete or try to compete with the competition but the competition already knows what they are doing and have been doing a good job and damn nintendo is just bad
All you’ve been saying was Nintendo is bad and is just garbage.
