Zelda Developers Discuss A Possible Spin-Off With Sheik

One of the interesting pieces of information that came out of this week’s E3 event is that the Legend of Zelda team have been discussing the possibility of creating a Zelda spin-off title which will feature Sheik as the main character. While nothing is concrete it does sound like an interesting idea. Guess we shall have to wait and see with this one.

Within the development team, too, there have been talks about how it might be cool to have a game that features Sheik as a protagonist. It’s having maybe a Zelda spin-off with Sheik as a protagonist, for example, I don’t think that’s an impossibility

    1. They would probably have to change the design of Hyrule in that game but yeah. I’d like that very much.

    2. And maybe as you get farther and farther in, Hyrule gradually begins to deteriorate in perceivable ways (Hyrule Castle is still standing, investigate Lake Hylia to learn the Serenade of Water, return to Hyrule Castle Town to see the Castle is now gone, investigate the Lost Woods to learn the Minuet of Woods, now Ganon’s Castle is where HC used to be, so on and so forth). Might be as impacting as walking out of the Temple of Time as adult Link for the first time and seeing Hyrule already devastated.

      1. But in the Sheik side game, we get to see it as it happens. I’d like a game where as you progress in the story, the over world and it’s towns and villages starts to drastically change from great to terrible as you progress.

  1. That alone sounds awesome!

Make it take place around the same time as Ocarina of Time and be about how Zelda trained herself to become Shiek, title the game “The Legend of Zelda: Survivor of the Sheikah” and this news would be perfect.

  2. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Impa as a main character rather than Zelda, and just put Zelda in Breath of the Wild as a playable main character since the game is called The Legend of ZELDA!?
I would have preferred Impa over Sheik, I mean come on, Sheik isn’t even a real member of the Sheikah tribe! Am I the only one who thinks Impa would be a better main character, just by her moveset in Hyrule Warriors alone proves this and her back story as a warrior/royal bodyguard is a better reason to choose Impa over Sheik. I have nothing against Sheik/Zelda, but come on we all know what I am saying makes more sense than what than making a game about a character that pretty much already has her name as the title of another game that she isn’t even playable in, but they want to make her playable in a totally new game!?

  3. I’ve never understood why Nintendo didn’t take a chance on several possible new games based off of they’re own characters. I would think Nintendo would have plenty of material to build off of for possible game’s featuring other iconic characters.

  4. The older Zelda Amiibos will most likely give link armor, items, and weapons in BotW, while the new amiibos will probably summon Epona or a helper guardian to ride on in the open world.

    1. I read BotW as Bottom of the Well… and then realized Breath of the Wild is correct and has the same acronym. This might take some time to get used to…

But yeah, I agree with your comment. At least I hope they use the older Zelda amiibo in some fashion. They might even do something like in TP with the new ones, like replenish hearts or make the enemies hit harder.

      1. You’re one of those people, eh? xD I’d prefer Twili Midna, though, instead of Imp Midna if they made a spin off with her.

  5. The idea has a lot of potential; maybe it could revolve around her trying to stop Ganondorf herself in the Adult timeline when The Hero of Time does not reappear and before the Great Flood, and reveal how she became Tetra decades down the line. Just a thought I have.

  6. why does every one think it will be OoT zelda could just be another zelda who takes up the mantle of shiek

for game play id like something that plays like zelda 2

  7. If they did this, I would prefer it to be a side story about Zelda/Sheik and what she went through during the events when Link was sealed. It might also be cool if it took place in the timeline when Link was defeated.
I kind of don’t want it to be a mini-game type of spin-off, like Links Crossbow Training; I would prefer it to be more involved in the overall storyline.

    1. A Sheik game would be the perfect chance to explain HOW Link was defeated. Many think Ganondorf killed him but I think it’s more something similar to how Dragon Ball Z handled Future Trunks. Just think of the Pedestal of Time as Trunks’ time machine. When Link went back in time to get what he needed to progress in the future, he indirectly caused the Link that was still sleeping to wake up in an alternate timeline where either Ganondorf was stronger than in the original timeline, overpowering Link like he did in Wind Waker and simply taking the Triforce of Courage without actually killing him like in Wind Waker, or maybe Link was cut off from reaching one of the sages because he lacked the necessary tools to reach them because the other Link had already gotten those items because both Links were traveling back to the same exact past so there was only one of each item and the second Link simply had the misfortune of waking up after the other. The Pedestal of Time was created by mortals, after all, so we aren’t very good at 100% perfecting things. Either way, Ganondorf didn’t see the need to kill Link or Zelda because once he had the Triforce, he was so driven by his ego that he didn’t realize he fucked up. Just like he did in Wind Waker when he made his wish BEFORE touching the Triforce! When egotistical villains think they’ve already won, they tend to make big mistakes that leads to their downfall. Like when they capture the hero, instead of outright killing him, and they want to gloat about their victory before they kill said hero which gives the hero ample time to escape. It’s Villain Stupidity 101. lol As to explain why Sheik would be the hero instead of Link, maybe he banished him to another dimension like he did Phantom Ganon, leaving Zelda, as Sheik, to rescue Link. As to why Ganon wouldn’t do the same to Zelda, maybe he thought she wasn’t as big a threat as Link because of the Triforce piece she use to have. Some people do think that being wise equates to being weak.

  8. well I think the idea of spin off will be interesting to see, as it will allow the team to experiement with the Zelda franchise and see what work what does not work and then incorporate those in the main title.

Personally I would like a new Zelda where Link just play a part of the game and other characters jump in such as sheik, impa (to content those who want a female character) or skull kids.
