Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Received Delays Due To The Physics Engine & Dual Release Decision

Shigeru Miyamoto spoke to IGN about why Zelda: Breath of the Wild had been delayed. Miyamoto said, “It’s complicated because as we’re developing this — obviously development of NX started a while ago — and unfortunately, I’m sorry, but the development of this game took a lot longer than expected. We really felt like we would be able to get it done last year, but there was a lot of struggle with using the physics engine, so that’s why it took a long time”. He gives a second reason behind the delays, explaining that “when we thought about developing a Zelda game for the NX, it would have to be way further down the life cycle of the system. And this game, rather than really focusing on the unique features of the Wii U, it’s really a game you sit down and get into. There was a change in direction, so we decided to develop for both consoles a while ago”.

Eiji Aonuma also spoke on the matter. Aonuma said, “from the beginning we were thinking of releasing this title on both platforms. With Twilight Princess, I was looking at, this [then-new] platform called Wii and I had more of an outsider objective view of, ‘Oh this is coming out’. But for this one I was slightly more involved with NX and just judging on the timing of development. When we were going to finish this, we thought it might be fun to have that available for NX as well. I don’t see it as something too unfortunate. I think it’s nice to have a single title that can be played on two different platforms”.

  1. I made a Miiverse post about how there should be an online or local 2 or more player competition, where players look at a far away point in the map, and then have a race to get tere first. This would let players think creatively on how to get there fastest, such as which paths to take, and using items such as shield surfing. Another person commented on my post with another great idea, saying player would first have to hunt enemies and gather food to be able to get there equipped in case of climate, or tougher enemies. I wish Nintendo would see this. Who agrees with me??

    1. It is actually a good, out of the box idea that seems to make a lot of sense. Multiplayer can be so many things and in a world I see for this game where the amount of freedom and interactivity with the environment is at a premium, there are a multitude of possibilities for multiplayer action.

      1. Thanks! And you’re right, there are many possibilities to be had with multiplayer. Another thing that I came up with is another example, such as hide and seek, tag, first to find certain item, etc. So many possibilities!! Please Nintendo, we need multiplayer!

  2. On topic with the article, while the game looks great from what I’ve seen, I hope it wasn’t rushed on different aspects because of their trouble with the physics engine.

  3. nothing needs to be said anymore, don’t they realize that? they’ve failed everyone and the NX will fail as well.

time to just sit back and watch them burn what’s left of that company to the ground.

    fucking clowns.

    1. I would try to make a compelling argument, but considering we know nothing about NX I’m not sure why anyone would hate or support it just yet. I’m very hopeful though. And this new Zelda looks so damn good… this is the most excited I’ve been for Zelda in a very, very long time.

      1. Here the thing for me. I have been a avid Nintendo fan all my life. But starting with the Gamecube, I’ve just felt constantly disappointed. Yes, there are some great games for GC, Wii, and Wii U. But no where near enough to make it feel like I have invested wisely in a counsel. The NX will be the first Nintendo system I don’t buy at launch. Especially after the dismal results of the Wii U. I am excited for Zelda. But who isn’t? But I need more than just Zelda (and xeno series, I like those games a lot for some reason). I more and more consider becoming one of those people who buy the counsel just for zelda than immediately selling it. That last thought makes me sad. So much nostalgia for nintendo but maybe I just grown past them. IDK. Maybe when I have kids I will buy another nintendo machines. who knows. But NX is definitely a wait and see system.
