Online gaming publication IGN is reporting that Scott Mofitt who has been in charge of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America will be leaving the company this summer. His leaving the company is apparently amicable and Mofitt will stay with the company until an unspecified date this summer. The publication also reports that Nintendo has decided to permanently dissolve the position of executive VP of sales and marketing. 1. I think I would have a better idea of how impactful this is if I could know how far has the marketing of Nintendo went under this guy. I mean, he made those Splatoon trailers that everybody hates but cannot get out of their heads, right? (You’re a kid, You’re a squid…)

I suppose that now that the employees can make marketing of their own games by themselves it would be good, right?

    1. He was hired by Nintendo for the position in 2011, so he was responsible for sales and marketing mostly for the Wii U and 3DS. Not a great reign in my opinion, not that all blame should lie on him. He had a history with marketing Mountain Dew to gamers, which is probably the expertise that got him the job.

  2. I'm just an Animal Crossing

Oh man! Nintendo is doomed! If only the crappy people would leave. I’m looking at you Reggie.

    1. Everyone’s been saying that garbage. Gettin real tired of hearing “Nintendo is dead!” “Nintendo is doomed” over nothing. Joke or not…

      1. Well if they continue down the path Wii & Wii U set them on & don’t diverge from it with the NX, they will be doomed. Least as far as being an integral part of the video game market, anyway, as they become just like Sega: a second rate video game developer. No. That’s too generous for them. Maybe 3rd rate would be a better term. Anyway, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is not only insanity but it’s the path to self destruction. That Wii money is bound to run out sooner or later, after all, if they keep fucking up & losing customers because they want to chase that casual market so they can have another Wii which was lightning in a bottle.

        1. Yet they’re still alive aren’t they? I’m pretty sure Sega did something similar to this and they immediately starting crashing. Nintendo can do literally anything and they have enough to make it. They have an edge over Microsoft and Sony but they can’t tap into it’s potential because it’s not that easy.

        2. They can do literally ANYTHING. Since this is now and that was then. The audience was majorly different back then. It’s HIGHLY unlikely they’ll end up like Sega for doing the same thing when lots enjoy it. Wii U only had shit advertisement. The new console literally had the word “Wii” in it. That left a very bad impression. They have enough money to where they can just bail like Kanomi and make lots and lots more money. Kanomi is making it rain in Japan with those machines dude.

        3. You may not realize it but appealing to the kiddies and casual audience is greatly benefiting Nintendo. They’re making mobile apps and everyone’s loving it. Lots of moms and families like to go to Nintendo, not all but still. They ain’t self destructing. That Wii money is only increasing because of what they do. Losing hardcore gamers like you don’t mean shit to Nintendo. They’re even spreading their market so they’re completely fine. Nintendo isn’t relying on just video games and consoles. That’s just giving them more money success or not. They’re using their IPs for other things like merchandise and such. Amiibos sold and still are selling like crazy. You underestimate Nintendo, it’s hilariously sad.

            1. Then what was the cause of the Wii doing so successful? Hardcore gamers? Pffft. That’s hilarious. Families and casual gamers take up half of Nintendo’s audience if not the majority.

              1. I see I have to use this video again.

                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n5E7feJHw0

If these people make up half or the majority like you so foolishly believe, why hasn’t the Wii U sold 50+ million? Oh that’s right! Because those people you speak so highly of left Wii for tablets, smartphones, & Facebook because they could give two shits about fully fleshed out video games that Nintendo makes and want mobile trash instead. When Nintendo pumps out more mobile games than home console and handheld games & they make more money off of that than home consoles and handhelds which keeps them alive & well while their main business fails, then you’ll be right that it’s fickle casuals keeping them alive and making up most of their audience. But I remember how you were when it came to taking everything Sakurai said up your ass like a good little bitch so I’m probably wasting my time again. Enjoy your time in da Nile.

                1. So yeah when I bring up good points you’re going to ignore them because of past arguments? How sad. How desperate are you to win an argument. I don’t waste time bitching over petty things. Salty motherfucker smh.

                2. I can’t take you and your petty arguments seriously since you like to try to drag past shit in arguments. Knowing you I bet you’re gonna find excuses to bash Breath of the Wild since you love to bash anything Nintendo related so much. I already found out facts and sources to counter your petty arguments against Sakurai anyway. So go ahead and try to say I’m “taking it up the ass” and “dicksucking” when you have no legit arguments.

Nintendo thrives off the casual audience and families. It’s basic fact. Causing a bitchfest isn’t gonna make your arguments any better. It falls flat.

                3. It’s downright pathetic how you’re acting like Nintendo can’t just make something that the casual audience will eat up like with Miitomo. Just because the casual audience isn’t getting consoles much anymore doesn’t automatically mean Nintendo has to go back to hardcore gaming or they have to rely on them in genera;. The audience that would ultimately fuck them over and ditch them for Sony and Microsoft.

Still salty over Bayonetta and Corrin who are great choices? Wouldn’t be surprised.

                  1. 1. Desperate to win? No. Don’t self project your own goal on me. I’m trying to get you to see how foolish you are into thinking Nintendo has some strangle hold on the casual market when they clearly don’t. If they did, the Wii U & 3DS would have done a hell of a lot better and wouldn’t be at around 15m and 30m respectively since both of those systems have plenty of games for casuals to eat up like Nintendo Land & Just Dance for Wii U and Tomodachi Life & Art Academy for 3DS.

                    2. Sakurai is a known troll, liar, and flip flopper. If you honestly believe his excuses for why this or that character isn’t in the game, I pity you. So enjoy those “facts.” If Sakurai is in charge of the next Smash & he can manage to get Ridley to work as a playable character, the “too big” “fact” is going to be exposed for the lie that it was: Sakurai just didn’t have the time to make it work with the short amount of time he had left because he was too busy hogging up the work & not delegating to his team. I bet you were pretty vehement last gen when Sakurai had his excuses for why the Animal Crossing Villager wouldn’t be in Smash, too. So I do have a legit argument: Sakurai. Is. A. Liar. Troll. Flip Flopper. He changes his mind more than Mitt Romney during the 2012 US Presidential Elections. I bet he’s already working on Smash 5 as we speak because he most likely changed his mind, AGAIN, about the recent Smash being his last one.

                    3. Yes they do have to go back to hardcore gaming. Consoles & handhelds are their main business. Those won’t sell as long as they chase the casuals that don’t want to pay over 300 bucks for those. They want to pay around 100 bucks for tablets & smartphones so they can use mobile games to pass the time, not so they can spend hours on end on a video game. They aren’t true gamers no matter how many mobile games they play. And ya damn right we’ll ditch them for Sony & Microsoft. But not for whatever reasons you think. We’ll ditch Nintendo because they turned their backs on us first by chasing after an audience that doesn’t want what they are mostly selling.

                    4. Salty over Bayonetta & Corrin? Try to find any excuse to bash Breath of the Wild because you love to bash Nintendo? Wow. Stupid fanboy mentality. So because I criticize them for their mistakes, I’m a hater & a guy that just loves to bash them? You must know how I feel about Nintendo more than I do, huh? For your information, I am one of the people supporting Bayonetta & Corrin in Smash because I wanted Bayonetta in & I like Corrin because he/she is part dragon. As for Breath of the Wild, wrong again, bub. I have done nothing but praise that game with a tiny bit of disappointment in the lack of a companion and haven’t bashed it over anything. And just to show you how wrong you are even more, I enjoyed my Wii & Wii U for the few select games on them that WERE good or piqued my interest. I just also realize both consoles also have a shit load of bad attached to them. I’m not some fanboy that’s going to pretend they don’t exist so I can pretend they were these huge, all around successes. As so many anti-Call of Duty people like to say, sales don’t mean shit if the quantity of bad games outweigh the few quality games. Wii is no exception.

                    1. You motherfucker. Yes they do. The casual audience is easy to attract. If Wii Sports can attract them Nintendo would be able to pull a lot of stuff.

There’s only one of them you got right. Which is a troll. Which doesn’t harm and it actually gives thrill for newcomers. He’s a harmless troll that likes to interact and mess with the fans. He still gives what fans demand. He just doesn’t let them control and run all the decisions which is understandable. There is no lie about Ridley being too big. It’s not his fault Metroid has such an obsession with putting one main character and the other characters huge bosses. Ridley has an awkward shape. He can’t be shrunken down, the instant he can be shrunken down properly he’s guaranteed to make it into Smash since that’s literally the ONLY thing holding him back. Ahem he thought Villager wouldn’t work because he doesn’t fight. Since Sakurai didn’t have a way to make it work back then and it would’ve looked wrong to see Villager throwing punches and kicks. He decided not to include him all together. He is not a flip flopper either. He just isn’t recklessly throwing himself into things. He puts some actual deep thought into things and comes up with final conclusions. Even then he thinks THAT over too. It’s for the best that he comes back. There wouldn’t be much options left and the options that Sakurai ignored that you care about so much has an higher chance of making it in.

No they really don’t, once ago some said that about Kanomi that they thrive and need to stick to game making. You can’t say what’s going to happen to Nintendo. No one knows including me about their future. Anything can happen.

I don’t stalk you and try to get every bit of info out of you. So I’m not stupid and whatever you were blabbering about was void.

                      1. 1. Nintendo doesn’t have the casuals in a strangle hold. The sooner you, and NintenD’OH! *faceplam*, learn this, the better and sooner they can get back to going after the gamers that REALLY matter.

                        2. Sakurai is a flip flopper. Just. Like. Mitt. Romney. In. 2012’s. US. Presidential. Elections.

                        3. If they keep foolishly chasing after the casuals that don’t want video games but time wasters like mobile games, they will not survive making hardware forever. If you would be happy with mobile trash and just that, you aren’t a true gamer & never will be. Go to smartphones & tablets where you belong with the rest of the casuals.

                        4. Then don’t assume you know how I feel about Nintendo. I’m not a Nintendo basher like your little fanboy mind thinks. I’ve been a fan of theirs since the early 90s, kid. I’m a true fan. That means I love them but I don’t make excuses for them. Kind of like what you are doing: making excuses & pretend Nintendo is just fine when they aren’t. Maybe the NX needs to fail just like the Wii U before you fools get the bloody picture! Hopefully it won’t & they’ll actually try to get back the people that TRULY matter with the NX as it adopts everything the PS4 does but better while ignoring what a bunch of casuals that aren’t even there want. Nintendo should just make a smartphone or tablet for 150 bucks & get it over with because that’s the only way they’ll truly get the casuals back.

                        1. Nope. The casuals may be inconsistent. But as I said for like the thousandth time. It’s way too easy to attract them since they have attention spans of children.

Okay so, putting thought and changing your mind = flip flopper. Shitty logic.

You’re trying to put me down for assuming when you just did a blind assumption right now dipshit! I never said I was a casual gamer or happy if they stick to mobile stuff. I’ve been saying dumbass that it’s understandable and they can still profit if they do. They love shitty mobile games so much? Nintendo can spew out mobile games easily with less than half of actual video game effort and the casual audience is all over it. For example: Miitomo. I’m not saying Nintendo will or should do it but it’s an option and I’m saying you CAN’T say what’s going happen to Nintendo. You don’t know jack shit about their plans nor what would actually happen if the NX bombs. I’m just merely presenting some of the alternatives and what COULD happen. You’re trying to say they’ll die out and end up like Sega as if that’s fact. Puh-lease!

It’s impossible to have casuals be consistent with video game content. But that doesn’t mean they can’t make a thing for the casuals to be all over. Also, no. You don’t get the picture. You’re over exaggerating like always and you’re trying to say as if Nintendo’s in any actual danger. If the NX fails they likely still have stuff to fall back on because they’re unpredictable and actually original.

                          1. More excuses for Sakurai & Nintendo as a whole. That’s essentially what flip flopping is: changing your mind when you realize how stupid your previous excuse or plan was. Hence, Flip-Flopurai!

I guess you haven’t heard that Wii was just lightning in a bottle. You rarely, if ever, can do it again. Nintendo needs to accept this & quit chasing after them. Or, like I said, they can just make a cheap little tablet or smartphone for mobile trash.

                            1. You’re trying to say being an actual good developer and changing your mind is a bad thing. Stop with the “oh you’re just making excuses” bullshit. You decided to start this shit in the first place when you tried to act like the alternative you presented is fact. They have ways to get the casual audience sucked in. They have attention spans of 8 year olds like I said. It definitely won’t be hard. I’ve seen the casual audience.

                              1. “You’re trying to say being an actual good developer and changing your mind is a bad thing.” That’s your assumption, not my words. Least in this case, changing your mind isn’t a bad thing because that will be what gets Ridley in the game as a playable character one day. Just trying to make you realize you waste your time defending Sakurai’s words because his words could change at any moment.

And you are making excuses for Nintendo. Chasing after the casuals that ditched Nintendo after getting their Wii & a few casual games when they don’t want anything else as they are happy with the same game over & over again is foolish and here you are saying they should keep trying even though the Wii U is showing them, and you, that those people aren’t coming back to a Nintendo console. EVER!

But you are right about casuals. They know how to get some of them back: mobile games for smartphones & tablets, not consoles. Nintendo has learned this the hard way with the failure of the Wii U trying to bring those people back. It’s time you learn this, too.

                                1. Exactly. So Sakurai isn’t a flip flopper for thinking about and changing decisions. Rushing into things made steaming piles of garbage like Mighty Number 9.

For the 10th time. I’m not making excuses. I’m only stating the possible and what could happen than just. “Hurr durr they’ll die without the hardcore gaming!”. If console making fails they have no need to force themselves to be like Sega. They can easily shift into something else. Especially with the iconic nostalgia IPs they have. “Same game over and over” What you said right there was pure exaggeration. Stop being a hypocrite. You keep trying to use the assumption argument yet you’re still blindly calling me a casual gamer. Go fuck yourself.

If you been keeping up with this website at all. You would know that Nintendo is starting to expand into the mobile business giving more options on what to do next. Which basically proves me right that there is no guarantee they will end up directly like Sega if things head south.

                                  1. I didn’t call you a casual gamer. I never used those actual words to describe you. That’s your assumption of my words again. Least not in this article. My words were “If you would be happy with mobile trash and just that, you aren’t a true gamer & never will be.” I never said with certainty and I was giving you the benefit of a doubt when I said if. Anyway, I’m done fucking with you since a tiny part of my comments are partly trying to troll you. Since you’ve shown you aren’t as big of a fanboy as our arguments tend to imply, I’m gonna admit I was wrong about you in a lot of aspects and leave this argument alone from this point forward. TILL OUR NEXT EPIC BATTLE!!! Oh & Steven Universe sucks!

                                    1. ” and you, that those people aren’t coming back to a Nintendo console. EVER!” I thought you were talking about me being a casual gamer. You mean SU sucks as in it’s fandom right? If so I completely agree.

                                      1. I was actually including you with Nintendo, not the casuals. As for SU, not sure what that’s an acronym for. Too many things with SU as an acronym for me to pinpoint what you’re talking about specifically.

                                      2. *facepalm* Stupid me! You were talking about Steven Universe. I was talking about the show, actually. Nevermind, though. It was meant to be a final troll bit. It doesn’t suck, per se, but it’s not my kind of show.

                                        1. Kalas you HAVE to have seen all the news and buzz and hype around Pokemon Go. What was that again? You were saying they couldn’t be successful with the casual audience? Imfao XD

                                          1. And you accused me of trying to win. lol Anyway, I did point out the only way they’ll win over casuals is with mobile games or making smartphones and tablets instead of video game consoles. So Pokemon GO’s success doesn’t negate what I said.

                                            1. You’re trying to say they’ll die without the hardcore gamers and if they go the casual route, which has been proven false since it drastically helped Nintendo.

                          2. I love how the internet rages for so many Nintendo employees to be fired and/or replaced but can’t really explain what that person’s job entails and what exactly that person did to deserve being fired.

Why not just rage about the things you want the company to do differently instead of raging to get people fired because you THINK they may be the ones doing the stuff you don’t like?

                            1. I rage cause i want to see Myamoto retire.. because i feel like now days he’s doing more harm than good.. it’s cause of his influence that paper mario games are starting to suck real bad.

                          3. they need to give Bill Reggie’s job. he would be more aggressive about content and better understand the US market.

second I hope the next marketing guy is smarter. almost NOOOOO marking on YouTube, Facebook, or mobile ads. and only a few TV ads for 3DS and Wii U.

also about the kids based content. they should really buy up platinum. have them work on M rated content. let platinum produce 2-4 games a year. then Nintendo can focus on E-T with a AAA every 2 months or so. (still only 6 AAA games a year if you think about it)

also they should rent out IP for other companies indie and AAA to work on some games. (hyrule warriors, picross, and those sort of things. )

                          4. nintendo might get a chance to find another marketing and sales person so that way nintendo can keep track of there profits and there sales. so nintendo is not doomed everyone.

                            1. The Wii was a one time thing. Anyone who wants an NX will be able to get one unless Nintendo deliberately holds back inventory to create false demand like the WiiU.

Give it a month or so and they will be easy to get. The Wii snagged a fuck ton of the casual market, but it was temporary. Nursing homes, kids, non-gamers, everyone wanted to play wii-sports. It was a one time landslide success. The sooner Nintendo gets that through their thick skulls and gets back to actual gamers, the sooner they will get their assets back on track.

                              1. You’ve forgotten because of that it gave them an edge with the casual audience. They’re expanding their market making it easy for them to bail and still get money like with Kanomi. You may not know but they’re making it rain in Japan with those machines. They’re not relying on consoles and games alone. They’re able to branch out and do what they please, beause they have enough money to support it.

                          7. Good. He was doing a horrible job. Of all the games that hit Wii U, the only one he did mass & aggressive marketing for was a family friendly video game we all know & love as Splatoon. Now if only Reggie would fucking leave! But he probably won’t! He likes being a little bitch puppet that says everything his puppetmasters make him say! I wish I could make a living being a fucking Yes Man! We also need to get rid of whoever the fuck is in charge of localization! These three fucktards have got to go before they start making some of us wish horrible things on them which is something I don’t want to end up falling victim to doing. So for the sake of everyone, please fucking quit or get fired already, Reggie and the Localization leader guy! You’ve overstayed your fucking welcome!
