Another 520 units of the original Nintendo 3DS were purchased this week in Japan, which means the handheld has surpassed 10 million units sold in the region. The New 3DS XL is currently the most popular system in Japan, with nearly 20,000 units sold this week. The next Nintendo Direct presentation is scheduled to take place later today, September 1, and will focus on upcoming 3DS games.

This is Japan alone. Not worldwide. The 3DS is beating the living crap out of the Wii U in terms of sales.
More like 3DS is just beating a dead horse at this point. lol
It’s the number of the ORIGINAL 3DS sold in JAPAN. Not 3DS XL and not new 3DS.
