The Wall Street Journal has spoken to a number of analysts who claim that Nintendo is gearing up to reveal their next generation platform the Nintendo NX by early October. The analysts also expect Nintendo to have some difficulty taking back marketshare as PlayStation and Xbox users are tied to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live respectively . Nintendo hopes to counter this with their My Nintendo program.

I assumed that’s why they had the last one at the very beginning of this month; to make room for an NX Direct later this month.
Except there is already an animal crossing mini direct planned for later this month… 3 directs in one month? Thats never happened before. I think its safe to say we wont hear about the NX until October now, unless there is an animal crossing game planned for launch, in which case it would make sense to do the NX reveal before the animal crossing thing, but maybe they do the nx reveal this month and do the animal crossing direct at the very end of the month or the beginning of october.
The Animal Crossing Direct Mini will be on November 2nd, not later this month.
I’d like to think that would be a good thing if they had 3 directs in one month. To me, it would mean Nintendo is honestly trying to be competitive again instead of the retarded mindset they’ve had over the last 2 gens of not competing. A business does best when they are competing with other businesses as they strive to be better which is good for customers because they are getting the company at their best. If they don’t compete, they aren’t trying to be better & are perfectly fine with being just good. To me, them not competing is Nintendo accepting defeat & that their rivals are better than them. That’s not a mindset a company should have at all.
Before the brand extension/brand split/whatever the hell WWE is calling it, WWE was getting pretty stale because they didn’t have any reason to be better because they didn’t have anyone to push them to their limits so they didn’t strive to continue being the best. Since Raw & Smackdown are now competing against each other for ratings, both shows are trying to be better and this in turn is good for WWE & it’s fans/customers as a whole.
Two things. I agree that it would be a good thing if they somehow found the energy and resources to release 3 directs in one month, but I dont think if they don’t it means they’ve given up on being competitive. Its important to realize that Nintendo is fighting against the current with consoles at the moment. You’ve heard the term thrown around about a “blue ocean”. Thats Nintendo trying to capture more than just the hardcore market. When it works, it works big. I agree that the wii was so underpowered it was ridiculous, but it didnt matter, because from a business perspective, the cost to profit ratio was crazy, and when you multiply that by however many consoles they sold, you see the dollars and cents of why they did it. It was a good business move. I think when you say you want them to compete, you mean against micro and sony, and the thing is they are looking at the bigger picture. They dont consider sony and micro to be their only competition, and they shouldnt, they lost the majority of their consumers to smartphones. So honestly Reggie is right when he says its not all about power and teraflops. They want to impress both the hardcore and the casual, because the risk is worth the reward. You’ll never see sony or microsoft trying to think outside of the box and take huge risks like that. So in a sense, Nintendo IS trying to compete, its just they are trying to compete with more than just the other console manufacturers. Secondly, and I say this with good intentions, can we please, please be done saying “thats retarded” all the time? I work with the differently abled and honestly no one respects how detrimental that term is. We should care more about using that word. You wouldnt use a racial slur to describe a situation you didnt like or thought was stupid, so why use an outdated term that refers to people with mental impairment as a way to describe the same situation. Saying thats retarded is what you would call “retarded”. Last time someone said that I was rude about it. Im asking you nicely this time, can you respectfully choose not to use that language in here? It really bothers me as someone who works closely with the people that term refers to.

I don’t use that word for mentally challenged/disabled people because I’ve always seen the word as an insult even before this political correctness thing became such a big thing. I would hope that they will do the reveal this month because there are fans dieing for NX news. Pushing the reveal to October would be extremely risky move.

How many days should we expect between when they announce the direct and the direct? a week or 2? This is the biggest thing they could show I imagine they want everyone to know exactly when it’s being shown and build hype. I’ll take any date they can give us at this point. Just tell us when so we can go “Well we will see on the ___!!!” in response to rumors for a while, and so we don’t think the worst case scenario of it being pushed back further (I really don’t think it will, they want this out as soon as possible, but man will waiting late september/october for any word will be nerve wracking.)
Who cares? Now we have Miitomo, Pokemon Go and soon Super Mario Run! We should not ask for anything else ^_^.

I had a new wacky theory for the NX. What if it is VR but without the use of a headset that straps to your face? Kind of like how the 3DS provides 3D without the use of 3D Glasses. I don’t know how they would do it but it would um, interesting…
That’s called a hologram, and I wouldn’t expect that from the NX, even if we practically know nothing of it.
It would be revolutionizing, yes, but also (most likely) incredibly expensive, and I don’t think Nintendo want that.

To avoid getting my hopes up over non-official announcements and rumors only to be let down again I just expect the least/worst case scenario. Officially expecting NX reveal sometime before April 1st 2017. 😑
Though this still may not happen and then i’d be disappointed, at least it’s better than continually expecting the most desired/convenient thing for me and then repeatedly being given otherwise.

I’m sure they’ll most likely introduce NX fairly soon, but your reason doesn’t have much to do with it. As far as I know Breath of the Wild technically doesn’t have an official release date so even if NX launches March 1st 2017, BotW could release for Wii U and NX on November 17th 2017 and they will have kept their word.
They just said NX is scheduled to release in March and that BotW will launch on NX and Wii U simultaneously. Should they need more time to work on that game or the NX itself these dates could shift in a heartbeat. The announcement of that decision would be met with great disappointment and bellyaching from fans and investors alike but it could still happen if deemed absolutely necessary…

March would be ideal, especially if the NX actually launches in March as well but in that initial announcement video nothing actually said Breath of the Wild was coming in March. Though they did state that the reasoning behind the NX launching in March was so that they would have titles ready at launch and that they want to better manage a steady stream of 1st party titles releasing on NX, I never saw/heard that BotW had a more specific date than “2017”. Regardless though I hope you’re right. I’ve been hoping that we get it with the NX launch, (supposedly in March) and by April at the absolute latest but I refuse to get my hopes up until this is all a bit more finalized and stores are taking preorders, etc. Even then i’ll reserve most of my judgment/excitement for post-release when i’ve played the system myself and can see the reaction of the general public.

October now? Wow……at this point I’m just wondering if Nintendo is afraid that the NX won’t impress or if the final build still hasn’t been decided yet. I’ve never known Nintendo to not be confident in something they created so I don’t think they’re afraid which leads to the notion of the final design of the the system not being agreed on yet. Nintendo has got to realize that the longer they wait the more info will most likely will get leaked about the NX and that a lot of people who are anticipating the system may lose interest in it. I really hope Nintendo knows what they’re doing if this early October date for the NX unveil is true

I’m expecting to be revealed during Tokyo Game Show, which is sometime this month. I’m starting to doubt that Nintendo will reveal the NX this month.

As I recall the Wiimote reveal was part of TGS 2005.
Nintendo needs to have a unified account system and subscription service like Live or PS Plus. That could help enable them to put better specs in their hardware because they could take a loss and the subscription service would make up the cost difference. If they had a press conference like Sony did yesterday and showed similar graphics for their IP (DK, Metroid, Mario, etc) it would blow people away and they’d make sure to make Nintendo their 2nd console of choice. Maybe they can’t get people to ONLY have an NX but they can sure get them to buy one as their backup/2nd.

I think they waiting the last minute to reveal the console so it’s difficult for Sony and Microsoft to copy. After all Sony’s version of Pokemon Go is currently in Sony’s R&D. The longer the info on NX the longer NX can stay unique when it is available for sale.

They can announce it September/October Time in a Direct for the Nintendo Fans, then show it off again at The Game Awards, as a way of showing it off to the rest of the Gamers that watch.
Let us hope that’s what they are doing. Waiting til December, if NX is what everyone wants, is too late of a reveal if they are in fact able to release it in March 2017. People will need at least 3 months to save up money for it if it’s by chance as expensive as a regular PS4 (350) or as expensive as PS4 Pro (400.) That, and unless they started mass producing the NX yesterday, we can’t have another shortage of stock like we did with the bloody Wii.
Speaking of PS4, I’m surprised the PS4 Pro is only 50 bucks more than the regular one. @.@ I was expecting it to be more expensive. Since it’s not, I’ll definitely upgrade to a Pro when my current PS4 starts to show signs of dying on me. Or maybe I’ll upgrade it in March if the NX isn’t what I’m hoping for & give my current one to one of my other brothers. In either case, I should have plenty of money saved up to afford either console by that month. I’m hoping that console will be the NX.
