Rumor: Nintendo’s NX Will Launch With At Least Four Games, Including Mario

A bunch of more rumors about Nintendo’s upcoming NX system have surfaced online. They reportedly come from a “large retail partner” that claims to know undisclosed details regarding NX marketing plans, bundle options, packaging features and specs. One rumor suggests the console will launch with at least four games, including an unannounced Mario title. Read on below for more purported leaks:

Marketing

  • “Interact with your game on the go.” phrase seen on a poster.
  • Strong co-branding effort with a Mario launch title on many posters.
  • Console is currently set to launch with least 4 titles on deck.
  • Stores should be receiving demo units around February.
  • Base price point seems to be sitting at $299.99

Bundle

  • The NX is currently set to have a bundle option.
  • The contents of this bundle is currently unknown.
  • Bundle price is currently sitting at $399.99

Packaging

  • The packaging for the NX will be slightly larger than the Wii U’s packaging.
  • The packaging is relatively clean and simple and is similar to the Wii U in terms of package design.
  • The color scheme for the packaging is white and blue (compared to the Wii U’s blue and black).
  • The packaging still says “NX” however there is still no indication if this is a placeholder or the final name.
  • The areas of the packaging that would usually depict the hardware were blurred and redacted by Nintendo in attempt to keep it hidden.

Features and Specs

  • Games will be on cartridges
  • 4k streaming has been mentioned. – What this likely means is playback of content such as Netflix, etc. Not gameplay.
  • 1080p and 60fps are being used by the marketing teams in relation to gameplay on to the console portion. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumblings of 900p for the infamous hybrid part of the device.

      1. NOT a terrible idea. In the words of Frank Sinatra’s song “Love & Marriage”… and I quote, “You can’t have one without the other.” The “NX” platform is a combination of both… the home console and a handheld device. Remember the cross-play concept of the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo GameCube as well as the PlayStation 3 and 4 & the PS Vita? Think about the future.

      2. If I cant have one without the other I simply wont buy it. Just like I wouldnt buy a ps4 if sony werent selling it without the vita. Its a terrible business decision.

      1. I highly doubt there will be a smash bros game at launch. It could be another 2-3 years for that to happen. There could be a lame port of the WiiU version (with possible add ons to bribe customers) but if that happens, fans would be afraid/mad that Nintendo will consider the port as the NX’s main SmashBros game, in turn, would mean no real successor.

      2. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings of Smash coming out on the NX at launch. It’s definitely going to be a port of Smash Wii U though. Hopefully they added something new to it (assuming this is all true). Otherwise there’d be no point in it. The Wii U version is already 1080p60 anyway.
So, what the heck would be the point in the port? I mean, it’s always nice to have more games though. I don’t know, I guess it kinda comes across as a bit of a cash grab.

      3. If it does get ported then I wont mind at all, so long as it doesn’t replace a REAL SmashBros NX game. I would hate for the WiiU version to be the primary SSB game for NX… the online play is disgusting, so boring, and limited— along with other flaws about the game. :’/

      4. You have to remember, if the system sells like hot cakes, there will be tons of folks who skipped Wii U who didn’t get to play those games. So, I look forward to the Wii U ports. I won’t mind a bit.

      5. You have a point…If this is the case and sakurai did say there is a smash in the works, This can be just a appetizer if they give NX a Smash Wii U/3ds port. But I have to agree…2 games is a good price with extra memory for 400 dollars. I might miss this day one because of that price though due to bills. That’s not going to sit well with me.

    1. Contary to what Microsoft, EA, Konami, and Activision what you to believe, platformers are the definitive genre of video gaming, which is why Mario is Nintendo’s main mascot, and and Mr. Video Game in general. Sadly enough, Mario is one of the few platformers left, with Donkey Kong and Kirby being secondary options for Nintendo.

      1. *clicks on link, hears song number 12, likes it, goes to find out the song’s name, but the list doesn’t say the names & only has a dash there* D: Oh the pain! It’s unbearable! … It sounds like Utada Hikaru, though. *looks up her simple & clean song* It definitely sounds like her so it must be her. Time to spam her songs til I find the one! xD

    1. Well the handheld seems to be the whole point of it being a hybrid so, yeah. Sounds good in my book with all their games being on one system.

      Like

      1. Precisely! That’s what all the hybrid people don’t get. A separate handheld and console let the two products focus on what handheld or console gamers look for in a their system of choice without requiring people to buy into the part that doesn’t interest them.

A hybrid would just abandon both bases in hopes that they’ll follow them to this new concept. It’s far riskier than the Wii U or Wii ever were and they could the benefits of a hybrid from a shared platform anyway.

  1. It’s either more memory, several games, or both in that bundle. I’d love a Zelda/3D Mario bundle. I’d also love to see whatever Retro’s been working on since Tropical Freeze.

  2. If this is true then the first 3 games could very likely be a mario game (of course), Zelda, and that one game that Nintendo likes to bundle in order to show off the consoles features like Wii Sports did for Wii as NintendoLand;WiiU.
For the 4th… well that could be anything, and would depend on Nintendo if they want to have bring alot of the big guns at launch, otherwise it could just be a lame shovelware title or 3rd party game or a cancelled/ported WiiU game or a new IP.
Or on the more unlikely side, it could be something fans have been begging Nintendo for, like, Metroid/Pokemon/F-Zero etc.

      1. I’m not going to trust these rumors.
Wii U launched with 13 games, PS4 and xbone launched with half if I recall right.

  3. My budget for the launch of this thing is €500. If I’ll be able to pick up the system(s) and two launch games for that I’d be OK with that.

  6. Still not super excited for it. I haven’t heard anything that really makes me think, oh man, I gotta have that.

Nintendo should have just released a beast machine this time around. I was suckered into buying Wii U for the main line title for the system, Zelda that now won’t even release for said system till it’s death. Zelda : BotW will be the last huge game on Wii U. It’s sad.

    1. Sad news… Siemens have copyrighted the name “NX”. Thus, Nintendo’s name of their platform is NOT the final name. We’ll have that official announcement from the Big N within weeks.

  7. And when the cartridges stop working then what?

We’ve stuck with discs this long for a reason.

At least we know 2 of the 4 launch titles. Please don’t let it be yet another NSMB game. That series needs a break.

    1. I have cartridges that are over 30 years old and they still work.
Disks are the ones i always worry about getting screwed up from scratches and junk.

Carts are a welcome return IMO…
Then again, they never really left…. all of Nintendo’s handhelds have all used carts… so.. yeah.

    2. I strongly disagree. Every Nintendo I’ve ever purchased since the 1980’s has always worked, never failed, and still contains my saved games.

      Discs can be very fragile.

I’m guessing you’re on the younger end of gaming.

  8. i feel like the 2 of the games are f zero and metroid because all the way back in mach there was a bunch of info leaked that is already proving true. (sonic for nx, dragon quest for nx, and just dance for nx) but other ones being wrong (3ds wont have much games coming out any more, while the wii u will be the main console *looks at color splash*) bbut if the games are to be belived then metroid and f- zero will be at least 2 of the games. while i dont think zelda is one of them then he would have said zelda was one of them but he didnt so that makes me beilive non of these are ports

  9. I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would release their two of their biggest hitters at launch. Both Mario AND Zelda? We already know Zelda will be a launch title, but it seems more logical to have games like Pikmin 4 or Animal Crossing at launch, and then save the next big Mario game for the holidays.

Eh, who knows. I’m tired of these rumors.

  10. At that price, really hoping a mobile retailer will start leaking their details any day now. I still think the mobile subscription plan rumor is true. Nintendo is about to blow our minds.
