Game Freak Still Interested In Pokémon Remakes

In a recent interview with IGN, Pokémon series producer Junichi Masuda expressed the company’s continued interest in Pokémon game remakes.

“I think the remakes, like Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, is still an approach we’re interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokémon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokémon out.”

He also explained that services such as Poké Bank and Poké Transporter allowed the original versions of Pokémon games, Blue, Yellow and Red, to be released onto the Virtual Console.

However, Masuda has advised that there are no current plans to release Pokémon Gold and Silver to the Virtual Console in the near future, explaining that releasing the original three games to the Virtual Console was the “right timing”:

“With the 20th anniversary, it was the right timing to release the original games,” “I think that we really want to give people the experience of bringing these Pokémon from the original Game Boy and seeing what they look like in Pokemon Sun and Moon. That is something that I want people to enjoy.”

Pokémon Sun and Moon, the seventh generation in the series, is due to be released on November 18.

  1. Man it would be cool if they made gold/silver ruby/sapphire on 3DS and brought the whole collection to switch. Even better the switch games should have all regions with a large plot where you need to visit old areas and meet old characters.
(i have a Feeling the art style of the new show is going to be the art style of the switch games)

They should also make HD remakes of the gamecube games.

  2. I love Soul Silver Version, it has the best mini games, Pokewalker function, Pokemon follow your character and the game is visually appealing and well done. Other than that I’d like to see huge remakes of Blue/Red/Green versions.

  3. They could make “Pokémon Generations” for the Switch and bring every Pokémon from every game on it. If only my dream could come true……

  6. pokemon diamond pearl remakes confirmed :) They would be fools not to remake these old classics, but at the same time, pokemon black and white deserve remakes too, because of the heavily outdated graphics style. but I don’t think pokemon x or y will ever be remade. As for pokemon silver and gold on the virtual console, it will hapoen in 3 years, the games stand at being 17 years old this year, game freak are just waiting for the games 20th anniversary, rock on game freak! :D

  7. Of course they are! The previous remakes did very well! Remakes of Diamond & Pearl probably went into production the moment they finished with Sun & Moon. When they do, I hope they do them like they did Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire where there is a post-game main story. For Diamond & Pearl, maybe that post-game story could end with the capturing of Darkrai. I MUST eventually have Darkrai & it’s light counterpart Cresselia in matching Dusk Balls! I already got Cresselia in hers!
