Aonuma States Link’s Name Cannot Be Changed In Breath Of The Wild And Also Talks About Voice Acting

In a recent interview with YouTube channel Looks Like Link, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma spoke about various topics relating to the upcoming title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.

One of the questions asked to Aonuma, was if players will be able to change Link’s name, and he confirmed that this will not be possible. He also spoke about voice acting, on this subject he advised that only the characters that are relevant to the story will have voice acting, and that voice acting has been used to help players identify with the characters in the game.

Aonuma also mentioned that Breath of The Wild has turned out as he imagined it in the beginning, but it was difficult to stop working on the game because he wanted to keep adding things to it.

Here’s the video of the interview, which is in German, below:

  1. Does someone know if UK voice acting will be available, or if the English voice actors are all American? Spanish got two regional varieties, so I hope the same goes for English voices.

    1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

      I’ve used a different name before a few times but I never really went very far in the game with those names. Hell! I can’t even finish a Link’s Awakening DX file if I accidentally save after Link gets forever labeled a THIEF. lol It’s happened. :/

  2. You can’t change Link’s name, but Miya/numa insist on keeping him mute (not to mention gender ambiguity)!? I call bullshit. Either let Link be our own character or let Link be HIS own character (much like Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Kirby, Marth, Robin (an avatar), etc.).

    Why would they tell us this stuff a month before the game’s release.

    1. It was pretty obvious since 2016. The first cutscene had a voice saying “Wake up, Link” and you couldn’t change his name on the demo.

      1. Besides, he’s his own character but we’re supposed to be in his shoes. That’s why he’s mute, so we can pretend we’re the hero and imagine what would he say and what would he do. I don’t see what’s so difficult in understanding that.

    Yep. This makes me expect Link will have a moment where he does suddenly speak some lines for shock value at the end of the game. Anyway, establish him as his own character & some of these people asking for Fem-Link will disappear. Not all of them but some.

      Anyway, I suspect there is a lot of complaints somewhere about not being able to change Link’s name. Just like there are complaints of voice acting in a Zelda since many were insistent it would never happen or that it would never even work for some reason.
