Niantic Admit That Pokémon GO’s Gym System Needs Improvement

Pokémon GO obviously isn’t as deep as the main RPG series, but the game’s gyms has received particular criticism for the franchise’s dedicated fans. Disappointingly for traditionalists, the game’s battle system was reduced to a few simple tap and swipes. However, Niantic seems to understand the fanbase’s concerns, addressing the problem in a recent interview. According to Tatsuo Nomura, they had trouble implementing the battles because of the lack of NPCs in the game. Read the full interview here.

“The gym portion [of Pokémon Go] needs a lot more work, and we are trying to improve it and make a bigger change to how the system works. Overall, I think we need a little bit more time to think through how we do it. We needed to define [gyms] in a way that works in a mobile game. For example, we didn’t have … there’s no non-playable characters. That’s not how the game works. We’re an MMO, and we expect people to play with other people. We expected more people to play that portion, and a lot of that is game balancing and just mechanics-wise, there’s some part of that that needs refinement.”

    1. I won’t even go near that piece of Cancer, but Niantic are assholes beefed up with their own importance.

  1. No NPCs is the biggest issue? Why not just have NPCs spawn in like the pokemon on the map and if you tap on them you battle them and get a small number of coins?
