Good news for folks in Australia who were planning on buying Puyo puyo Tetris; the title is now available to purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop. We recently reported that the game was being delayed in the territory but it would seem that turned out to be for solely the retail version which can be expected on May 12.
Puyo Puyo Tetris is priced at $59.99.
Damn, sounds pricey for a Tetris game, but I don’t know anything about it, so, yeah….

$60 is the australian price. For various reasons, most of them political, video games have pretty consistently had unusually high prices there. I’m sure an actual aussie could explain better than me.

The $60 price includes our 10% GST (Goods and Services Tax). The GST is the only Sales Tax applied in Australia (unlike the State and/or Federal Tax model of the USA). So the pre-tax price is $54- which converts to just over $40USD.
It’s true that we generally get slugged with the Australia Tax- around an extra 10% after conversion and GST, put down to the fact we’re a smaller market (true) and the logistics of supply (possibly true, but weird seeing as we’re much closer to the majority of manufacturing sites in Asia than the USA is). However, in recent years our prices have been much closer to those in the US before tax, so it really becomes a 10% premium to get things on release day rather than waiting 1-2 weeks for an import to arrive.
For my money, Puyo Puyo Tetris is still way to pricey, and I’m going to wait for it (and Super Bomberman R) to come down to about $30 each. I just picked up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $62 here (about $46 USD), so with that, Zelda, Wonder Boy, Kamiko, Fast Racing RMX and 1-2 Switch, I’m pretty set for now!
Just get the game in the US eShop. Use a Puerto Rico ZIP and you won’t even have to pay any tax on top of the listed price there. Which means you pay 28 US$ instead of the horrific Swiss eShop price tag of 56 US$ or the Australian price tag of 44 US$.
