If you own an original 3DS and it’s packed up it’s worth noting Nintendo won’t be repairing your system, according to their official American support page for the 3DS. It’s unclear as to why this may be but I hazard a guess it’s to do with the newer model recently being announced thus prompting Nintendo to carefully reevaluate their repairing resources.
Note About Original Nintendo 3DS Repairs: Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original Nintendo 3DS system. Newer Nintendo 3DS family products (including the Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS) are still being repaired. If you aren’t sure which system you have, check the serial number on the back of your system. If the serial number begins with CW, you have an original Nintendo 3DS system. Just after 6 years after launch, it does look a tiny bit unprofessional. -.-
I suppose you’re right….But I mean I still have my Black 3DS I bought day one it was released and I haven’t had a single problem with it….yet?
I still have my original one and it still in good shape.
Problem is that if you get it you are out of luck. That is unacceptable since there are intependent people that eill help you. If they can help you in exchange of your money why shouldn’t Nintendo (by doing proper fixing)?
Even though I have a new 3DS now, I kind of wish I would have gotten my old one repaired before this happened. Basically just needs a new power jack, maybe I can find someone else who knows how to do it.
Just poke around online looking for Nintendo-related forums as most if not all will have a section where users can seek out repair work. There should be plenty of guys and gals who will fix any system you own. Hell, you can find people who fix the original Game Boy, Old Sega systems, and even add new screens to almost every handheld.
And Agato… six years is a long time for a company to repair old hardware out of warranty. Not “unprofessional” at all. If you had a six-year old phone, laptop or PC, good luck on getting the manufacturer to even look your way if there’s a problem. They’d just try to get you to upgrade even if the thing worked perfectly. You’d need to go online and seek out someone to fix that device, same as anyone else who likes to hang onto something deemed “obsolete” by its manufacturer. Nothing wrong with that, mind you.
Yeah, it won’t last long.

They’re phasing out the 3DS in favour of the “New” models. XL and 2DS are next ones to go. They’re not repairing the original 3DS because the spare parts are not being made anymore.

Even though every technology manufacturer does this, it’s still pretty shady & unprofessional. It’s basically their way of getting you to upgrade & buy their fancy new product no matter how much you might not want it. But least it helps other guys make money that can actually repair retro devices when everyone else stops doing it.

The 3DS and 2DS are being phased out anyway due to the new switch handheld. Wasn’t there an article here a few weeks ago stating the 3DS systems/games were only going to be supported until the end of the 2017 year?
It makes sense to drop support when you have a newer gen handheld. I don’t see the switch as a console, just the next evolution of the DS line. Which is a shame considering how popular the DS was.
Nintendo should NEVER quit offering repairs for their own products. That’s just lame and unprofessional. I guess gamers should all start studying how to repair game consoles themselves. If only I had a teacher to teach me those things. I only know basic stuff. Like how to replace a 72-pin connector on an NES. And how to replace the power fuse in a Super NES. But I SUCK at soldering.
