As part of Nintendo’s plan to deliver news about upcoming games throughout the year, the company will provide a packed week of activities at the E3 video game show, which runs from 13th to 15th June in Los Angeles. Proceedings will be headlined by the first-ever opportunity to play Super Mario Odyssey, Mario’s upcoming sandbox-style adventure for the Nintendo Switch console, as well as other Nintendo Switch games. Additional activities at the annual show include a Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation announcing new details for Nintendo Switch games launching this year, the return of Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 2017, and tournaments for ARMS and Splatoon 2 livestreamed from the show floor.
Nintendo’s E3 activities kick off on Tuesday 13th June at 18:00 CEST with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view in local languages live at Nintendo of Europe’s E3 2017 website, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching this year.
Immediately following Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017, Nintendo is once again bringing back Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 2017, a livestreamed showcase of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Gameplay for all the featured games will be streamed from the E3 show floor from 13th to 15th June via Nintendo’s Twitch channels, with a chatroom available in viewers’ local language. In addition to gameplay, the livestream will include behind-the-scenes info and commentary from game developers and members of the Nintendo Treehouse. Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 2017 content will be livestreamed in English only.
When Nintendo’s booth space opens at noon L.A. time on 13th June, show attendees will be among some of the first people in the world to get their hands on Super Mario Odyssey as well as other games for Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Odyssey is Mario’s first sandbox-style game since Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.
In addition to all of these activities, Nintendo will also host game tournaments that will be livestreamed from the E3 show floor. The 2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational splats onto the scene on 13th June and features Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch. Composed of four pre-qualified squid squads from Europe, the U.S., Japan, and Australia/New Zealand, the tournament will find teams participating in the first-ever international Splatoon 2 competition. The second tournament, the 2017 ARMS Open Invitational, takes place on 14th June and will feature Nintendo’s upcoming ARMS fighting game for Nintendo Switch.

You have almost no droughts coming up (with 1 nintendo game per month) and 3rd party support has to be earned(With a big install base and good sales of the 3rd party titles)
Since Sonic mania and Sonic Forces is coming at E-3, I guess SEGA is really having there own booth this time.
We will see new unannounced Switch games but we really don’t have much info on Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors. SMO has to be spotlighted because it’s gonna the big money maker for Nintendo this holiday season and all we saw were teaser trailers for both XC2 and FEW which have already been announced for this year. I think because Splatoon 2 launches a month after E3 that maybe a little time will be spent on it to discuss what’s new. If Reggie is hyping Nintendo’s E3 up then it must be huge

Considering Odyssey, XC2, and FE Warriors all release this year, more info on them at E3 is a given. I agree on Metroid, Smash, and Pikmin to an extent. I doubt we’ll see Overwatch at E3 since Blizzard doesn’t do that- they have their own Blizzcon in November. I’m not partial to the rest of the list, personally.

I not hyped to see ARMS or splatoon 2 as I know about then… Mario I’m hyped for but I need a hell of alot more, ignore the DS it’s ass 90% focus in Switch… Metroid and F-Zero!!!
It seems that their digital event won’t have any 3ds content at all, but that will all be at the treehouse live event. Which tells me no new major 3ds games will be announced. Maybe they are finally fazing it out. I really hope so, they should focus all their efforts on the Switch, Its an amazing console.
They just announced the 2DS, it won’t be right to completely ignore it. I am sure there will dedicate a time slot for upcoming 3DS games like Hey Pikmin and unannounced titles (probably Wii U ports like what they did with woolly Yoshi and mario maker).

Kid Icarus yes please. Notice how team Sakurai who is responsible for Sm4sh and Kid Icarus went completely blank after they released Sm4sh (last latch update was more than a year ago). This is a sign they are working on something. My bet is Sm4sh deluxe.

So a sandbox style game is essentially the same as an open world game? Metroid better be shown at E3 this year. Especially since its rumored that 2 new Metroid games are in development. One by Retro Studio and one by Climax studios. This my friends is almost too good to be true, but how sweet it would be for this to be confirmed.

They’re certainly more open than Galaxy or any Mario platformers released in the past 6 years though, ya gotta give them that.
Still, perhaps sandbox isn’t the best term to describe Odyssey.
This is what I got from techopedia…..A sandbox is a style of game in which minimal character limitations are placed on the gamer, allowing the gamer to roam and change a virtual world at will. In contrast to a progression-style game, a sandbox game emphasizes roaming and allows a gamer to select tasks. Instead of featuring segmented areas or numbered levels, a sandbox game usually occurs in a “world” to which the gamer has full access from start to finish.
A sandbox game is also known as an open-world or free-roaming game.
Yeah I read a similar definition. I don’t think any of the Mario games fall under this definition. Mario 64 and Sunshine have an open-world where you’re free to roam, and you’re free to choose which objectives you complete and which ones you ignore; but you’re still required to play through closed, segmented levels in order to progress through the game. You can’t completely ignore the levels, because you wouldn’t be able to progress, and there’s really nothing to do, but to progress.
I’ll also say, I don’t completely agree with this definition. I consider a sandbox game to be a game that would be similar to playing in a sandbox. For instance, if you were to play in a sandbox, you would enter it with whatever tools you have (i.e. shovel, pail, sifter, etc.) and you would be free to play however you want. The box would have its own resources (in this case sand) and would offer you different play options to choose from. An obvious video game equivalent of this would be minecraft.
I would call GTA a sandbox game because, while it does offer a story and missions, it also offers tennis, golf, etc. If you wanted to just play golf, you could do that. Xenoblade Chronicles X is similar. It has a story and missions that you can progress through, or you can treat it like Monster Hunter and just go out hunting, leveling up your character to take on bigger, stronger monsters. The Mario games aren’t like that. While they do offer freedom, they don’t offer anything to play with other than the main story.
