Nintendo Recognises There’s An “Appetite” For Virtual Console On Switch

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned this E3 is a Virtual Console service for the Nintendo Switch. IGN caught up with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime to question him about bringing the service over to Nintendo’s latest platform. Reggie naturally didn’t have much to say about Virtual Console but he did recognise that it is something that the fans want.

“We know that our fans, our players, want access to all of our digital content, we know that. What we’re working through is, ‘okay, what’s going to be the best way to make that happen, to make that available?'” Fils-Aime said. “Certainly, we recognize there’s an appetite for all of our great legacy content.”

  1. It kind of sounds like they are considering making this content only available through the online service. Like it might be kind of like that PS Now subscription service for PS3 games on the PS4. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an extra charge on top of the $20 a year. I think ps now is like $20 a month.

    1. That’s one of the possibilities I thought of. The other possibility, and this might be going out on a limb, is that they recognize that some fans might not want to buy these games again for the n-teenth time; and so they could be looking into making purchases more permanent.

They did say, back when the online service was first announced, that people would have the opportunity to buy classic games if they wanted to keep them. Unless they completely changed their minds, some kind of VC must be coming.

    2. They’ve been very particular about saying the online service nintendo games are not the same thing as their Virtual Console. Sure you get those games through the service, but when they do launch VC games, that is going to be separate from that – and not requiring a subscription.

  2. Hey Sickr I’ve been reading mynintendonews a long time and I’m just wondering as I’ve noticed the tip/credit on this article whether all authors have access to the contact/tips section as I’ve noticed a dramatic decline in the success rate of tips I send in being turned into articles and tips on the site as a whole. Some of which were turned into articles significantly later without a tip. This isn’t a particular annoyance I’m just curious as it seems to be harder to get tips in personally for me lately. Under this alias and another.

    1. ||Only Ambassador Sickr himself has access to the tips section so if another one posts an article regarding a tip you sent, they most likely are unaware of it…||

  3. This is one of the main reasons I got the switch. I hope they don’t just release them monthly. I really dont care about online play in old games. Even Xbox is getting better backwards play then switch is.

  4. The thing is though, why didn’t they have this “figured out” before launching the Switch? They can’t be waiting this long to implement it.

  5. Hopefully they’re taking this long because they’re developing a way to transfer our games from 3DS & Wii U. I mean, you’re already able to link your accounts together so maybe, just maybe…

  6. Please, … add “Nintendo Arcades Games coinup version, that in arcade machine need 25¢ to play” from the 198x. Like “Mario Brother arcade machine coinup version” “Donkey Kong arcade machine coinup version”, and other Nintendo arcade games, …

  7. If Reggie isn’t gonna actually answer the damn question & dance around it, how about he just not open his mouth at all? A simple “we have no plans at this moment” or “we’re working on it at this moment” is better than some misdirection bullshit.

    1. I don’t hate Reggie, but I am really, really annoyed with this guy.
