Sakamoto Would Love To Make Another 2D Metroid Title Dependant On Fan Support

Metroid series producer Yoshio Sakamoto recently chatted with Game Informer about the future of the critically acclaimed and much-loved franchise. He revealed that while he would love to make another 2D Metroid game it all depends on the response to Metroid: Samus Returns which launches on the Nintendo 3DS next month.

Through the development of Metroid: Samus Returns, I was able to really grasp the possibility and fun of a 2D Metroid. Like when I finished the first game, if there is another opportunity to make another Metroid, that is something that I would love to do. Of course, that really depends on how much people really want to buy a 2D Metroid.”

  1. I wouldn’t love Sakamoto to make another Metroid fangame….
Lend the 2D series to Igarashi, I have higher hopes on him.

      1. There were more problems than just Samus talking. Technically she also talked in Fusion but it wasn’t a problem there.

      2. the whole game was ruined by sakamental what the fuck are you smoking samus spoke

the whole game was SJW NONSENSE AND THE STORY THE GAMEPLAY THE CONTROLS DIDNT MAKE A BLIND BIT OF SENSE

  2. Man, the momment both Metroid games became available I had them pre ordered.
Sakamoto better stop playing around with that “if it sells well” crap and make another 2d Metroid game because I’m gonna run through Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid P4 like a hot knife through butter O_O

  3. Well, I’m getting Samus Returns on launch (and am gonna try to track down a Metroid amiibo), so I’m on board with this. We MUST show that people still want 2D Metroid, as well as the series as a whole.

I just hope this means we’ll get Metroid 5 set after Fusion if this sells well- Fusion ends on too much of a cliffhanger to never touch up on.

  4. i dont want sakamoto anywhere near metroid his a mental case weirdo with his nonsense artistic visions YEAH RIGHT your a talentless hack and you almost destroyed metroid

    1. The same talentless hack that made Super Metroid? Metroid: Zero Mission? Fusion?

Get real, bud. It’s his franchise. Either accept his way or go find another series.

Some people need to get over how bad Sakamoto handled Other M. He’s had plenty of success with the series with only one failure under his belt which was Other M. He was the director & writer for Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion and he was the director for Metroid: Zero Mission, 3 games which I recall being huge hits with most of the Metroid fanbase. So I, for one, am not ready to give up on Yoshio Sakamoto being heavily involved in the Metroid franchise just yet.

Not sure how it’s autistic but okay.

It is a mouthful. It’s how I really feel but even I won’t be able to remember it word for word. Hence why I copy/pasted it into my wordpress profile when I added that RIP Chester Bennington into my name for a few days til I was ready to re-add it to my name.

I say reasonable things all the time. Not my problem some of you just disagree.

            1. who not how lol. Hate that you can’t edit comments. It is an add on for that on WordPress, please install it MNN :) Would be much appreciated from a rusty Norwegian.

Shouldn’t you be stalking Sasori on youtube or something? It’s pointless to be the Church of Sasori on here when the real Sasori isn’t even active here anymore.

I figured I struck a nerve awhile back. Just a sad, pathetic, immature loser that holds on to grudges for way too long. Maybe one day you’ll grow up.

Least my grudge is against someone that is still doing stupid shit that gives me a reason to have a grudge; just last week they fumbled with the SNES Mini’s preorders with shitty NES Mini levels of stock. Tell me. When was the last time the real Sasori came here & pissed you off that you have to keep this charade of your name up? 2-3 years ago? lol

    1. I never liked Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, they don’t feel like Metroid to me, specially Fusion. And then he came out with Other M and is now making this random game that uses the Metroid Intellectual Property. Sakamoto has literally always been the bane of Metroid, he can’t ever get the series right.
I also credit Yokoi for what the original 3 came to be, because all of them feel alike, feel like Metroid, despite Sakamoto’s zero involvement in Metroid 2…. but as soon as he got full control over a game, without Yokoi to make things right, Fusion was spawned from that, a completely different game. Fusion is Sakamoto’s “vision” of the series, the same vision that Other M holds for that matter. Super was Yokoi’s vision.
Yes, I will always complain when Sakamoto touch this series, he can’t ever get it right, and he surely is not buying my trust on him with this not-Metroid he is spawning now.

      1. Meanwhile zero mission is my favorite 2D Metroid… yeah that’s right, not super metroid. Though that is my second… but I loved the original so when it was remade, I honk it was natural for me to love it the most. As for fusion, I think it was 2 things, a step in the wrong direction, but more than that, a great game. What I mean is similar to majoras mask. No other zelda game is like it, and it came after a classic. Same thing with fusion… it’s not meant to be an example for future metroids, but an outlier, or black sheep, of the series. So if it isn’t meant to be a game to set up for the future metroid 5, it is wrong, but I’m assuming it won’t be

Was it through Best Buy by some chance? If so, I wish us both luck as that’s where I preordered mine thanks to an IGN Deals email.

      1. Ebay actually. It was a little pricier than the store price, but it honestly wasn’t that much. I’ve seen people charge 50 for one, so I’m honestly surprised the person raised the price by so little.

  6. If retro arnt involved with prime 4, then why not get em to do a brand new side scroller metriod for switch. Should tie us over till prime 4 arrives. Can’t see that we’ll be playin that for another couple years!!
