Square Enix president and representative director Yosuke Matsuda held a results briefing earlier this month for the company and he took the chance to talk about the Nintendo Switch. Matsuda outlined the support Square Enix would be given to Nintendo’s newest console and stated that they welcome a platform like the Switch because of it being received well by consumers.
Here’s a full translation from Square Enix:
Q: Where do you intend to prioritize allocation of your development resources going forward?
A: We base our development resource allocations on the unique attributes of each platform. In particular, Nintendo Switch makes it easier for us to leverage our back catalog of assets and expertise, so we want to be proactive in creating new IP and rebooting past titles for that platform.
Q: What do you think of Nintendo Switch, and how are you approaching development efforts for it?
A: Nintendo Switch is seeing rapid uptake, and we welcome the arrival of such a platform. We intend to be proactive in our development efforts given that it’s a platform that is well suited to the mid-sized titles at which we excel.
I dont trust them, they’ve been Sony dick riders for a long time.
Lol amazing
It is amazing. Amazing to see these people still upset about FFXV not coming to Switch any time soon when there are still a few games from Square Enix already on the Switch with more on the way.
Infinite is like you never been on the other side of the fence, SE has not delivered on the Nintendo side of thing for like years now, the DS was the last portable they really truly supported with amazing games, the 3DS got Bravely Default and Kingdom Hearts(DQ Games had to be worked on by Nintendo to bring over, what a joke) before they dropped support to move to mobile games, and the only thing they announced on the Switch was Project Octapath, a game mind you that looks AMAZING, but clearly looks like a low budget game, just in case the Switch fails? Capcom and Square Enix never had faith on the Switch, and this is why real Nintendo Fans despite them at the moment.
You do know I Am Setsuna is a Square Enix game, right? Or that Dragon Quest Builders is coming to Switch in 2018? Dragon Quest XI is being developed for the Switch, too. Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2 and Lost Sphear are already on the Switch in Japan, too. And now they are talking about even more games for Switch. Support is support, whether any of us like what’s being offered or not. Only 5 games on Switch (3 I already own & 2 I intend to buy next month) interest me but I wouldn’t dare say the Switch isn’t being supported by a lot of video game developers/publishers, Square Enix included.
“Real Nintendo fans”
:’) yeah sure.
You know, I don’t completely disagree with being skeptic, even though there are quite a few other games SE is bringing to the Switch than just Octopath. But that elitist statement is just stupid (and classically fallacious).
While I agree mostly with what you said, “ur a real fan cuz this” is always a dumb statement to make.
I am Setsusna, Project Octopath traveller, Dragon Quest builders 1&2, Dragon Quest X and XI and Antique Carnivale announced for Switch in its first year and you still don’t trust them?
8 games already announced… They have supported the switch more than any other developer this year. Cut them some slack
Apparently some people want 20 or 30 games from Square Enix. The irony is there are more games from Square Enix on or coming to Switch than there are Bethesda games (Skyrim, Doom, & Wolfenstein II.) But apparenlty for some, Dragon Quest doesn’t count. These selfish gamers need to realize support is support whether they like what’s being offered or not. Plenty of people want those Dragon Quest games. If they really want Final Fantasy games so badly & if Switch is only gonna get Dragon Quest games, they better go buy a secondary console for those FF titles. (For Nintendo’s sake, I hope that’s a really big if because Switch could really use a resurgence of mainline Final Fantasy games on a Nintendo home console.)
Nintendo are the ones to blame for that , they used to make some of the best games the Snes had to offer.
I’m down, give us the old Final Fantasy games!
All talk but no action! I truly hate Square Enix with a passion of pure malice intent!
Over 8 games from them coming to the Nintendo Switch or already on the console in at least Japan if not worldwide. I have no doubt they have even more games in mind for the system.
A shame there are two idiots in here that ignore all of that with lines like “I don’t trust them…” or “All talk but no action!”
Damn it, WordPress! That was meant as a reply to the actual article, not this moron. (Now I gotta repost it!)
Tbh I can understand why they’re mad. But you aren’t wrong. Square has some games in the pipeline, personally I just see no excuse for not getting FF7 and KH3.
Lack of trust isn’t really unjustified nor a statement condemning everything definitively. So really calling that person an idiot is a bit too far don’t you think?
And at least half of them is Dragon Quest shenanigans. This isn’t support at the level of another platforms.
People are right to be pissed off by Square-Enix antics. I, for one, are sick to death of Dragon Quest games, and the only game they are developing worth a damn is Octopath Traveller (if the TWEWY rumor is false).
They mean, all talk but no FF. I think that is really the problem.
Support is support whether they like what Square Enix is offering or not. Just because they aren’t giving them any Final Fantasy games right now doesn’t change the fact there are plenty of other games from them on the system for people that want those games. So sucks for these impatient ones waiting for one particular franchise from Square Enix.
I mean Square Enix is damn good at making games, it’ just they don’t give Nintendo the support like they do Sony ;_; At least we have bravely default
(Stupid WordPress forcing me to have to repost this to the article itself.)

Anyway, any chance two of these games are Bravely Third & Chrono Trigger, Square Enix? I’ll take a sequel to Trigger, too. Preferably one that ignores Chrono Cross.

In the case of The Crazy Fereldan, I probably went a bit too far. With Malbhet, I’m not sure. He could just be completely ignorant with his “All talk but no action” line when SE has clearly taken action with supporting Switch if he bothered to google it. But if he does know of the games from them for Switch & is choosing to ignore them, I’ll stand by my “idiot” comment.
Haha, fair enough, I was also mainly referring to the one simply saying he didn’t trust them. :-)
Come on SE, give us Tomb Raider on the go!
Can’t wait for Project Octopath. It’d be nice if they would localize that Mana 3-pack that taunts me in the Japanese e-shop.
Beyond that, I don’t really trust them with rereleasing classic games because chances are older Final Fantasy titles would be the phone versions.
Its time to stop putting off mainline Final Fantasy. Back on PS1 and PS2 was fine but you can’t afford to ignore Nintendo now. Bring back Final Fantasy.
Personally they can keep FF and focus more on Project Octopath which it takes some of that nolstagic 2D turn based fight that I really love.
Also I hope to see KH3 to the Switch.
When you give the Switch the same support you give to the Crap Station we’ll talk, piss off SE
I’m excited for Square Enix to have interest in bringing games to the Switch!!!
What I want from SE:
– Project Octopath.
– Kingdom Hearts 3.
Just give me a remake of FF:CC or an actual sequel to it (not like the ds ones or the my life as a king/darklord)
I’d love a remake of My Life as a King where you actually get to venture out to the dungeons you send adventurers off to (the name could be changed to My Life as a Warrior King.) Of course, everything in the original game should still be doable with some extra building options like maybe expand the town’s walls so you have more places to place buildings at. There is just so much more they could do with that game if it was a AAA game instead of being a game for around 20 bucks.
They can keep FFXV and FFVIIR…. Give us Vagrant Story remake and Chrono Trigger remake with HD2D
I just want an HD remake of Final Fantasy VI.
I’m just waiting for Project Octopath, the value of that game is far higher than a FFXV game.
I would like to see more Project Octopath games, but quality isn’t easy to achieve, there are so many mediocre developers that work for big publishers.
