I know a few of you have been waiting on word as to when Yooka-Laylee is heading to the Nintendo Switch. Well, today, developer Playtonic have confirmed the adventure will begin on Switch on December 14th. Here’s what the team had to say on the official blog:
Available to pre-order from the Nintendo eShop from December 7, Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch features a shed-load of polish and updates, including single-JoyCon play across all eight multiplayer games, a custom Achievement system, plus the ability to take our collecting duo on the go without the need for extravagant extension leads!
The Playtonic team has spent many, many months optimising Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch (with technical help and support from Nintendo and Unity themselves!) and we believe we’re delivering a version Nintendo fans can be proud of.
Players can expect a quality experience both on and away from the television and on top of that, Switch players will benefit from the huge list of updates we’ve added since launch such as a brand new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music… and a lot more!

To celebrate the announcement, we’ve launched a fan art competition on our Facebook and Twitter pages to win one of three ultra-rare 64-Bit Editions. Click across for a chance to enter!
Thanks again for your continued support and patience. We hope you agree Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch is worth the wait!
Thanks to Nick M and Cappy for the tip!
So I remember when this game was released I was pretty disappointed to see some of the middle-of-the-road reviews. Was that on part due to game “meh” and not fun, or was it the performance and mechanics of the game. I’m hoping the latter because in that case I feel like the developers could still work out the kinks for the Switch version. If the game was just boring or lackluster, well, you can’t really polish a turd.
Turd is a subjective term, unless you’re referring to a literal excrement.
Good talk.
}{ The level design and controls were both very poor… Even if they fixed the controls I couldn’t recommend this game, even to a console peasant… }{
From what I understand, critics agreed that this game did a very good job of capturing the feel of a 64-era 3d platformer. The problem is that 3d platformers have evolved since then and the old ones don’t feel as good when compared to the smoothness of modern day games. So reviewers were kinda split on whether or not Yooka-Laylee was “good” or not.
Feels a LOT like Banjo Tooie, but not much more polished than that game either, which I suppose critics figured was more unacceptable for a game released in 2017 than a game released in 2000.
I still have around 40 moons to collect in SMO, so this looks interesting… but then we also have Xenoblade coming out soon, so I don’t know
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Christmas wish has come true! Now to celebrate the ultimate platformer Christmas with a clear conscious.
The trinity+1 is complete!
Trinity? Mario, Sonic and Yooka-Laylee
Is this the Trinity that you are talking about?
Yes.
Also Poi as a bonus.
But… but… what about Bubsy!?
Not for the Switch. I also didn’t mention Crash Bandicoot, Cuphead, and A Hat in Time for that reason alone.
Bubsy was a joke :P
The ultimate platformer Christmas happened in 1990.
I was just born then.
Way too late.
At least another one joined the Switch family.
Yes ! Finally! I’ve been waiting for this to release for the longest. Sucks that it got mediocre reviews but I still want to give it a chance and see for myself if those reviews are warranted.
You know, they fixed the things that warranted mediocre reviews.
Really ? I haven’t really been following the game I was just waiting for the switch release, it looked fun to me and that’s really all I cared to see lol
One of my first games on the N64 was Banjo Kazooie… Love it when i was little, if this game had came sooner, i would bought it, but now i have too much on my plate, Doom, Odyssey and Rocket League.
Eh I’ll pass.
It’s not good, so smart choice.
The game itself is ok. Not a fan of Banjo-like games.
It’s just so Super Meh I get disappointed in myself for letting myself believe it would be good.
That’s fine. Like I said: not a fan of Banjo-like games.
Tough luck, Playtonic- there’s no way this is gonna compete with Mario Odyssey. Had it come out before that, it could have stood a chance.
What did Syndrome say in The Incredibles? Oh right-
“It’s too late. Fifteen years too late…”
I am still busy with Odyssey, can’t wait for the BotW DLC and have Xenoblade on preorder…but I will definitely get this game as well. Maybe it will have to wait until January or so though.
At 600p 30FPS, this is a joke. I’ve seen more intensive games with more effort that performs better than this.
Here we go again :P But Playtonic aren’t great at optimisation. We all know that.
If only I had the time for this game. I have 3 Switch games I haven’t even started yet, and I expect them all to be better than this.
Should have saved it for January or February. This game won’t stand a chance against Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Skyrim, & Doom… even if they did fix the things that were wrong with this game.
Who to fix this game: uninstall.
I’m still going to get this for one of my machines. It would feel most at home on Switch, but I could stream/Let’s-Play it on PC, just need to upgrade my graphics card first. I’m leaning more towards PC for the streaming purposes though.
