Gamescom 2018 Award Winners Announced

You have most likely noticed that Gamescom has kicked off this week and the award winners for this year’s event have already been announced. You might be looking for the Game of the Show award, but it appears as though this isn’t something that the panel announces. Nintendo fans will be pleased to hear that Best Family Game went to Super Mario Party and Best Nintendo Game went to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Here’s the list of winners for 2018.

Awards for best in genre:

  • Best Action Game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • Best Add-on/DLC: Destiny 2: Forsaken
  • Best Casual Game: Team Sonic Racing
  • Best Family Game: Super Mario Party
  • Best Puzzle/Skill Game: Ori and the Will of the Wisps
  • Best Racing Game: Forza Horizon 4
  • Best Role Playing Game: Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition
  • Best Simulation Game: Landwirtschafts-Simulator 19
  • Best Social/Online Game: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • Best Sports Game: FIFA 19
  • Best Strategy Game: Total War: Three Kingdoms

Awards for best on platform:

  • Best PS4 game: Spider-Man
  • Best Xbox One game: Ori and the Will of the Wisps
  • Best Nintendo game: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Best PC Game: Anno 1800
  • Best Mobile Game: Shadowgun War Games

Well some people are gonna be pissed that Nintendo only won two categories where one of said categories was, by all accounts, not even a contest because Smash Ultimate most likely won by a landslide, anyway. The other category was Best Family Game which is another category Nintendo is very good at winning when they have something to show.

  2. I like it that Super Smash Bros Ultimate is not even out yet, and is already winning awards. Too bad there is no best fighter category for it to also win.

    1. Yea … seems really odd that there would be a best add-on category, a best casual category and a best simulation category but No best fighting game category.
