Rumour: Nintendo 64 Classic Announcement Is Apparently Imminent

We have all heard numerous rumblings around the internet that Nintendo is working on a Nintendo 64 Classic as a follow-up to the NES Classic and the Super Nintendo Classic. Today, a site named Gaming Intel has captured people’s attention as they claim that sources have informed them that the classic edition of 64-Bit console is due to be announced this month by the Kyoto-based company. The sources say that it is to be shown off following or sometime after the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct which is happening at 2pm GMT today. The site says that the system will have 30 pre-installed games overall with 5 names stated:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Puyo Puyo Sun 64 (But may not be on all versions, could be just JP)
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • At least 25 more games.

    1. I wish lol, Microsoft owns 100% of the brand and as much as we see Xbox and Nintendo be friendly with one another I cannot see Microsoft ok with putting content such as Banjo Kazooie on a rival console. If Rare was only partially owned by Microsoft, it may have happened but in this case. It’ll probably stay exclusive to Xbox.

      1. Huh you think Microsoft should buy Nintendo? They already tried more than 10 years ago and they failed. Don’t think this will happen. Nintendo has a different mind of making consoles and games in compares to you xbots with many fps games on their machines

    2. Japanese companies don’t sell their company to non Japanese people, it’s against the rules and rightfully so, they ain’t as stupid like we are. They are smart enough to understand invasion and propaganda unlike some people here ( not this site )

      2. Sony moved PS department to California and now Japanese devs are getting pissed off by new censorship policies and being required to submit their work for approval in English.

  1. If all the rumors are true it makes total sense. Nintendo and Microsoft have made a deal concerning Rare IP where both can benefit. Microsoft will likely get a bit of money on N64 Classic sales in return for having their games on it and probably got the usual licensing fee that occurs for all third party characters.

Now, if Microsoft was able to help Nintendo get Goldeneye in the N64 Classic people will go absolutely nuts.

  2. I’d love to believe this, but I don’t. The other mini consoles have been announced in the fall (IE almost two months ago) and they typically have stock troubles all winter. You can’t just announce an N64 Mini you have to have time to make the thing. There’s no way they have millions of these already made without any leaks happening.

  3. If this was real, then it would make a good one-two punch if Banjo was in Smash. Play as him in Smash, and play his original game on the N64 Classic, if they have the license for the character then maybe they got it for the game too. On paper it makes sense, but I doubt it’ll happen.

    1. It sounds feasible up until the point where it says Banjo Kazooie, I doubt Microsoft would let one of their first party IP’s be on rival hardware. I know and understand Microsoft and Nintendo are on good terms but putting major content on another brands hardware is a seriously unlikely scenario. With Minecraft it was different as that was the original games intention but BK its different. No company would ever put a game that could sell more consoles due to inclusion if the hardware belongs to a rival or competitors hardware.

  5. I understand all the commenters saying that Banjo Kazooie would never appear on a rival console. However, a stand alone thing like the N64 Classic would possibly be something different. If BK was allowed to be on the system, then Microsoft would be receiving royalties from every sale, look cool to the gamers (for allowing such a deal), and possibly attract customers who want more Rare games. Oh, and did I mention the royalties?

On a separate note, if we do get an N64 Classic, the controller will be as big as the system.
And if I’m correct in my assumptions, the system will need new hardware for four player action and enough memory for a reasonable amount of games. The price will probably be a hundred bucks, which, if memory serves me, is what the PlayStation Mini costs.

  6. F**king pathetic that Microsoft can buy all out and now hijacked these brands, should be against the law to buy something out just for strategic and marketing purpose to kill competition.
If you are defending or spending money on Microsoft you are a M * R O N, ok?

Unlike you guys I didn’t forget what the plans where for the first xbox one and disabling second hand games and always online, it’s also the brand responsible for charing for Online and open the gates now Sony and Nintendo to do this same

Microsoft is the devil and worst gaming company !
