Video: The 14 Most Graphically Impressive Super Nintendo Games

The Super Nintendo produced some graphically impressive video games during its tenure and a Japanese YouTube channel has listed what it deems to be the most visually impressive games on the system. It is always amazing how far video games have come today, but you can’t help appreciate the visual charm of these retro titles.

  • Tales of Phantasia
  • Axelay
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Star Fox
  • Donkey Kong Country 3
  • Street Fighter Zero 2
  • Tengai Makyou Zero
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Seiken Densetsu 3
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Rudora no hihou
  • Megaman X2
  • Star Ocean

  1. I think the first dkc should be on this list as it was incredible when it came out and super Star Wars with the use of mode 7

    1. I agree that DKC1 and SSS were impressive at the time of their release, but the list is comprehensive and I think they were excluded because each of these games did surpass them in some way (for example Star Fox’s use of Mode 7).

      1. Yeah I can’t believe I got that free plus shipping and handling back in the day. Can’t remember exactly what we had to do but I remember my mom sending something in and getting it by mail. It was huge at the time cuz we could have all the Mario games on the SNES and enhanced at that. Fun times!

  2. In my opinion, I think Donkey Kong Country 2 should be on that list because it has many atmospheric levels like the ones from the lava world and ones from the swap world (world 3).

  3. Where the FUCK is Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Chrono Trigger!? (If the Golden Sun games had been able to release during the SNES era on the SNES with the design they had on the GBA, that shit would be at the top of this list somewhere!)
