The Nintendo Switch Firmware Has Been Updated To Version 8.0.0

Nintendo has suddenly released a brand new update for the Nintendo Switch firmware. Once you update, the firmware’s version number should be 8.0.0. It’s a big update, adding a Sort Software feature, 15 new avatar icons, new region settings and even a “View All Available News” option. You can see the full patch notes for yourself down below.

Added the following system functionality:

    • Software can be sorted by time last played, total play time, software title, and software publisher
    • The All Software option displays when there are 13 or more software icons on the HOME Menu
  • A View All Available News option is available within News, allowing you to view all news items currently being distributed
    • Go to News > Channel List > View More

    • To edit your user icon, head to your My Page on the top left of the HOME Menu > Profile
  • A feature to Transfer Your Save Data is now available, allowing you to transfer your save data for individual games between your Nintendo Switch systems
    • Go to System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data
    • Save data will not remain on your source system after the transfer process completes
  • A Zoom feature can be enabled from within System Settings
    • Go to System Settings > System to turn Zoom ON

  • An option is available to prevent the system from waking from Sleep Mode when an AC adapter is disconnected
    • Go to System Settings > Sleep Mode > Wake When AC Adapter is Disconnected
    • This also applies when undocking your console
  • A VR Mode (3D Visuals) restriction is available within Parental Controls
    • This will also be available in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app through a later update
    • Go to System Settings > Parental Controls
    • These settings can also be changed from within Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit
  • Hong Kong / Taiwan / South Korea is available for selection in Region

  1. i dont think this is mentioned but in the all software if you scroll all the way to the bottom there is a option to redownload software, dont know if this has been included in this update or in a previous one and i haven’t noticed.

  2. The zoom in is a huge deal for me. My eyes aren’t the best, and I occasionally have trouble trying to make out small (but often important) details. I never would have thought this would have ever been a thing.

  3. I’ve got over 100 icons on my view all screen now and it’s growing fast so a search bar would be nice, but folders with customisable wallpapers would be ace!

  4. I’m excited the damn machine wont turn on every time I grab it from the dock. It was so annoying, I’d be in a hurry, and just throw it into my coat pocket, then go to use it hours later only to find it’s dead cause it was turned on in its sleeve for hours. I’d finally gotten in the habit of grabbing it and having to hit the off button every time, every day, but finally I wont have to do that anymore. It was so annoying.

    1. Wait! They got rid of that infuriating feature of the Switch!? YAY!!! It was always annoying when ya turn it off but then it would turn back on, on it’s own, when you either removed it from the dock or put it back into the dock!
