Video: First Trailer For Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

The time has finally come as Paramount Pictures have released the first trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The film stars the amusing Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and the comedic film is due out this November in your local cinema. Have a watch of the debut trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie down below.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

      1. IDK… I’m not too sure Jim will be as good as people are saying, the clips for him were just as cringy to me as the other parts. Also, that design in the last clip will likely be near the end of the movie (you can just tell)… so he will look more like the inaccurate version for the duration of most of the movie.

  1. To be honest, while I’m in the camp that hates the Sonic redesign, I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of what I saw. Carrey as Robotnik and the action sequences look pretty dope. Will probably watch it at some point.

    1. I’ll probably watch a version on the internet. Not going to the cinemas for this meme trash. Jim Carrey does kinda fit as Eggman, i guess. As long as he’s entertaining

  2. Oh my… I can’t still get Sonic’s design… they say that that wasn’t the final design and they lied to us… and i can’t see Jim Carrey as Eggman, just as Jim Carrey

  3. Em… What’s so difficult about taking the model from the 3d game modifying them with higher graphics?
I though sonic was a hedgehog… Why is he this furry?
    Why isn’t Eggman fat?

Why is SEGA trying so hard to make me hate Sonic?

  4. G-G-GAH! Sega! Are you TRYING to give me nightmares?! I’m sorry, but I just can’t get over Sonic’s design!

  5. It doesn’t look great and the only thing I enjoyed was seeing Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey. I’m not a huge sonic fan but it’s sad the way the character has been handled over the years. Too many bad games and poor choices and this is going to be ripped apart by the present internet culture.

  6. I knew everyone will say something negative about this trailer. see what you’ve done paramount pictures??. I’m sure almost no one will want to watc h your trash movie now. Fuck you paramount pictures. Sega should’ve made this movie in the first place.

    1. Sorry but Sega would have fucked it up all the same. I don’t think Sega quite gets Sonic anymore. The only reason I feel Sonic Mania did so well was because it was done by an outside developer that Sega probably left alone to do their thing.

  7. The Riddler would defeat Cyclops if it wasn’t for sonic. Also I want Sticks, cream, and storm to be playable on team sonic racing. I also want all of the gamecube sonic games ported to nintendo switch or as many as possible. I would go watch this in the theater but I haven’t been to the movies since Black panther and despicable me 3 because of my busy schedule.

  8. *sees picture* … *bursts into laughter after a few seconds* lmfao *goes to watch the trailer* Okay. Well the trailer has definitely made me more interested in it as a possibly (emphasis on possibly) good movie. However, the Sonic design is still trash. Legs are too long, his body is too thin, and he’s missing his fucking white gloves. You got til November to please, PLEASE change the design.

    1. Dude, the thing’s due in November and they already put a trailer out, meaning the film’s in post-production by this point. Sadly, nothing’s gonna change unless they can the whole thing and restart from scratch, which is entirely unlikely.

      1. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is coming out in June and we’ve gotten trailers over the past few months where the CGI for Godzilla & the other monsters is slightly better with each trailer. Paramount has plenty of months to alter Sonic’s design in the movie since it’s during post-production that they actually work on scenes with CGI. So they actually do have plenty of time to fix that… manhog in the film if they listen to the feedback of those of us not happy with his current design.

      2. This is just the first trailer and movies tend to have at least 2 trailers before the actual release. And the second trailer isn’t just new scenes but also alterations to some of the CGI over the months between the first trailer drop & this new trailer drop.

    1. Detective Pikachu actually has Nintendo’s involvement.
I don’t think Sega even wanted to touch this movie with a 39 1/2 foot pole.

  9. Seems like it will have good action sequences. I’m treating it like Its a re-imagining of Sonic so I really don’t care that his image could have been better, same as robotnik. It doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would so ill watch it at some point. Of course I’m much more open minded than most of the other fans out there so I understand the hate its receiving. Most game franchises are either loved at first sight or completely hated on by gamers. Hopefully it’s able to reach a wider audience.

    1. That’s nothing. I was first informed through FOX News (FOX NEWS!) before I even knew they finally gave us a trailer.

  10. Yesterday I was saying how Carrey looks NOTHING like Robotnik, but at the end of the trailer they show how he kinda… Devolved into his actual look?

Okay, I’ll admit- Carrey’s Robotnik and the action scenes don’t look half bad, but Sonic’s design is a Trainwreck. Also, why they went with Ben Schwartz to voice him instead of current VA Roger Craig Smith makes no sense to me.

    1. Me, you, Aka-Link, and I’m sure a few others are smart enough to know that Robotnik we saw at the end of the trailer won’t be seen in the film til the last few minutes of the movie. Probably as a sequel baiting cliffhanger.

Yeah, because movies that do a sequel baiting scene always get their sequels!

      1. I’m just going to guess his appearance changes to that due to exposure to… whatever the hell makes Sonic’s quills crackle with electricity, or whatever it is, which, why is that a thing in the first place?

        1. I don’t think they’ve played the games because they made Sonic into a fusion of Marvel’s Quicksilver where time supposedly stops once he starts using his power & DC’s Flash because of the electricity he creates when he uses his power. That’s why those two things are a thing in this movie. If they played the games, they’d know that Sonic isn’t so fast that time just stops for him when he’s using his speed; he would need Chaos Control in order to freeze time but that has nothing to do with his super speed.

  11. SEGA: Mr. Whitehead, we need you immediately.

    C. Whitehead: What do you want? Another 2D Sonic game?

SEGA: Actually, is for a 3D Sonic game.

    C. Whitehead: Let me guess. Trying to appeal to the wrong people agai-

SEGA: No. Just do what you did in Mania. We can’t take anymore criticism!

    C. Whitehead: (How can they still not get it!? 😨).

    1. That’s what I’ve been saying! Maybe there IS (and very well SHOULD BE) a development team like that.

If anything, THEY should be the ones to give us Sonic Adventure 3, or at least a good 3D Sonic game that’ll start us off on that path.

  12. I’m not even mad at this trailer, except that the song being played is being used to censor reasonable critics with false copyright claims. I want sticks the badger, cream the rabbit, chaos zero, and the babylon rogues to be dlc on team sonic racing.

  13. *I see the article image, and I can’t get away fast enough*

The crazy thing is, the original live-action Sonic design teased in the promotional images actually looked a lot better than this. But this design is MUCH worse! The eyes, the mouth, the legs, the “Meow?”. Where do I even begin?

“Any publicity is good publicity”. Is THIS what’s going to kill Sonic!? Because that’s what Paramount seems hell-bent on doing.

Not cool! Sonic is a video game icon, YOU TREAT HIM LIKE ONE! Just as you would Mario or Pikachu!

  14. Why are you bitching over a movie of all things if you don’t like it don’t watch it I fr one think it looks very impressive and they haters are only butthurt thinking my childhood is ruined, to which I say you can’t ruin what you already lived through so stop being a bitch and get over it!

    1. What we are actually mad at is that they put no effort in making this movie actually good and restore the already tarnished reputation of Sonic. Childhoods have already been ruined a long time ago.

      1. I think he’s just mad most people hate this ugly Sonic design while most love the design of the Pokemon for Detective Pikachu, which he thinks looks bad. So really, he’s probably the only one here that’s actually butthurt. He probably trashes people for not liking The Last Jedi, Captain Marvel, & Ghostbusters 2016, too, because they are “just movies.” There is a lot of these losers on social media these days. Just a bunch of butthurt fans of those movies throwing a temper tantrum because “How dare you have a different opinion to my own that isn’t favorable to the movie I enjoyed! Waaaaah!”

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGGvR2JBqMY

If he isn’t one of those people and he trashed The Last Jedi, Captain Marvel, & Ghostbusters 2016 like a lot of others did, he’s just being a fucking hypocrite in this instance.

  15. Guys, just stop making video game inspired movies, It’s obviously not a good idea and rarely does it actually work.
Fudge me, you’d think all the past evidences would clarify this but nope, companies still don’t learn.

    1. The problem lies with the studios and/or the crew making the movies themselves, not the movie adaptations of these video games. Instead of trying to mimic the games more closely, they do too many changes that just make it fall too far from the source material. Look at Doom (the 2005 film), for instance. The only thing it did right was the damn monster designs and the first person shooter segment of the film. Everything else was just Resident Evil in Space (or on Mars if you want to get technical) since the monsters weren’t actual demons but were simply just experiments on humans that mutated them into monsters.

Damn straight, I mean I ain’t against them expanding and throwing in new ideas to make the movie stand out but in terms of the source material, they really should stick to what is already established.
I mean, as much as Sonic’s games have fallen in recent years (Sonic Mania being the exception), 1 thing that has remained good is his iconic look, why would they change that and think this is a good idea?

          1. +Infinite Ridley
To tell you the truth, I always liked the Sonic Boom designs, even Knuckles was fine to me because he’s a brawler and all about close-combat so giving him an overly buff design actually made sense to me.
It was the game itself that just wasn’t good.

            1. I liked Sonic’s scarf. The extra quills on his upper back is a nice touch, too. He is a hedgehog, after all, and hedgehogs have quills all over their back. Sonic would look silly with quills all over his back, though, so just some on his upper back are fine. If they do want to add quills to his entire back, they should be significantly smaller the lower you go on Sonic’s back. If they all look big, it does kind of make him look too different from his original design.
