    1. I’ve heard Planescape Torment has some of the best writing and branching storylines of the medium. Don’t kow much about Baldur’s gate besides being from Bioware.

What I know is that they are all isometric Computer RPG if you see gameplay of one you might have a pretty good idea of how all of these play.

      1. Thanks for the info. The gameplay seems good enough I know these are older games but story is really what sells me on rpgs, it’s why I can’t play mmo’s anymore cus I want a good storyline.

    2. They are real time crpgs with the ability to pause that use 2nd edition Dungeon and Dragons rules. Except Neverwinter Nights, which uses 3rd edition.

Baldur’s Gate 1 has more emphasis on exploration, with 2 having more emphasis on story and high level dnd encounters (read: lots of magic). Planescape has an incredibly deep setting and complex story, where it’s not out of the ordinary to have 8+ dialog choices when talking to people but combat is horribly clunky. Icewind Dale is more focused on combat and looting/stealing everything not nailed down. Neverwinter Nights’ main campaign is a glorifies fetch quest, but the additional modules are better written and more interesting.

    3. I would say that storytelling in games owes a very lot to Baldur’s gate back in 1996. The fact that you care so much about storytelling in games and have never even heard of Baldur’s gate is shocking. Back in 1996 when I was desperate for good story in games, there was nothing much available except Baldur’s gate. And it was a transcendent experience. It’s so huge, and deep, with so much text for dialogue. So many different unique charcaters. So many choices you can make that fundamental change the world and the way the story plays out. It’s unimaginable, and likely still holds up today on par with the likes of Witcher 3 in terms of story.

      1. I’ve heard of these games just never played them. Bear in mind I was born in the early nineties so the concept of storyline was not really that important to a 4 year old child at that time. Twenty years later with so many other story based games to play it’s easy to see why I have not played a mid-90’s cult favorite. When old games are remastered or re-released I am always interested in them now that they are more easily accessible. Thanks for the information, very helpful and sadly ive made the decision to wait for a sale because $50 each is too expensive for me personally lol

    1. Yea pretty expensive. Personally , I’ve gotten the habit of buying games on sale now. There’s rarely any reason for me to buy full price anymore when the next month they’ll be on sale but i support those that do have the funds to do that lol so I’ll just wait for the eventual sale
