New regular Nintendo Switch model with longer battery life coming late August and early September

Nintendo has announced that it has revised the Nintendo Switch system to incorporate a larger battery for longer playtime. You’ll be able to purchase this edition towards the end of August in North America and early September in Europe. There will also be new Joy-Con colours which you can see in the tweet below.

This new model – still just named Nintendo Switch – will boast anywhere from 4.5 to nine hours of battery depending on the game you play. For Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll get 5.5 hours play. That compares to just 2.5 to 6.5 hours of battery for the current standard Nintendo Switch model (about three hours for Zelda)

  1. Argh been waiting for a while for new joy con colours but why did they have to stick a neon yellow with that blue one!? I already have two of those. I love the purple and orange though

  2. The neon purple and neon orange look great, but I would like that blue one without the neon yellow.

  3. So this is selling for the same price, correct? I swear if there are and “new” switch only games I will self destruct. Joy cons look sick though.

  4. Controllers: want
    New switch: no point

I think I’m going to get the switch lite and use it as my portable indie machine and use my current switch for the bigger games.

Bring on the advanced switch pro though, preferably for Metroid prime 4.

    1. Probably not. It’s likely more than just a battery upgrade. I suspect this “new” Switch is using the same guts as the Switch Lite, which is more efficient (newer/smaller parts that use less energy).

  5. They need to start selling these damn Joy-Con colors separately so someone like me can get a green one now & then a purple one later when it releases. Nintendo needs to update their online store to let people mix & match the colors to their liking instead of only selling default paired colors. I’ll even pay a 5 dollar increase if they want to be assholes & charge extra for letting people mix & match them to their liking. Otherwise, the only way to get the colors you want is to either buy them used if they are sold separately or buy the set, sell the color you don’t want back to the store, & then buy the other set, keep the color you want, & sell the other one back to the store. The latter is a waste of money as you end up losing more money than you get if you don’t want the hassle of selling them separately on eBay.
