A Pokemon Direct has been announced for January 9th

It’s very likely that this wasn’t the Direct presentation that you were expecting to be announced this week, but Nintendo has announced that a Pokemon Direct will be occurring on January 9th at 9:30am Eastern Time. The Direct will be “roughly 20 minutes long” and contain “new Pokemon information”. Obviously, Nintendo tweeted the Direct announcement, so we’ve included it for you down below.

I don’t think this is the only direct in January.

16th of January is the date for a Nintendo Direct.

  2. This is extremely disappointing as not only is my faith in the pokemon company non-existent after sword and shield, but this means we’re probably getting a pokemon direct INSTEAD of a normal direct for a while now -_- not interested at all.

      To get your hopes up
      Pokemon Direct: September 4th 2013
      Nintendo Direct: September 8th 2013
      Pokemon Direct: February 26, 2016
      Nintendo direct: March 3, 2016
      Pokemon Direct: June 7, 2017
      Nintendo Direct: June 13, 2017
      Pokemon Direct: June 6 2019
      Nintendo direct: June 11th 2019
New direct will still happen imho. Either this month or next one, there’s no way we won’t get one. Plus fighter releases before March.

  3. So umm why we getting a exclusive direct for pokemon is there anything else to talk about unless its going to be more pokemon add to the dex for sword and shield (aka the datamine) more info on pokemon home, and sleep, or a actual another spinoff for the switch, kinda weird to have a exclusive direct come out for the first of year instead putting out all you have to offer first I wonder how the investor will react after the direct

      1. Oof I forgot there’s actually suppose to be a legit port of that, but that was like confirm way before let’s go but I’m still confused on why January tho February is usually when Pokémon showcase something

        1. Kids sits with money left from Christmas I guess. Quite periode so smaller announcements will get more attention than they would otherwise. Can’t think of other reasons really.

  4. Maybe this is the direct for the actual Pokemon game that SHOULD of been released. Lol

Seriously though, I would of thought a more in depth animal crossing direct and then a direct for upcoming 2020 games

  5. Man, Pokemon Company is just churning out these low quality games at a rapid pace now.
Do people really want a new Pokemon every year? Granted, this is likely just about the new apps and maybe some phone spinoffs (R.I.P. Mystery Dungeon) but still, give your brand some time to recover at least.

  6. This is kinda surprising. Expected a Nintendo Direct, didn’t really see a Pokemon Direct coming. Don’t really know what they could possibly show. I feel that it’s a bit too early to talk about new Pokemon games already, yet I also don’t think that Sword and Shield will see a content update or anything of sorts. Really the only thing I expect them to show is Pokemon Home, but doubt it would fill an entire 20 minute Direct. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  7. The absolute best scenario: Pokemon Bow/Gun is announced with a full National Dex and an actual post-game.

The absolute worst scenario: More mobile trash.

What will probably happen: They announce the release of the datamined Pokemon while exclaiming that they’ve “listened to the players and added more Pokemon”

  8. I think this will be mainly to do with Pokémon Home and what that is actually going to be like, maybe a couple of smaller side games announced too. This has no affect on a general direct happening soon though imo

  9. We all know this is going to be about SwSh DLC since it lacks content compared to previous games due to rushing it for holiday season release.

The other half will be about Pokémon Home and Pokémon Sleep. Perhaps a trailer for Detective Pikachu sequel that they have been working on.

I guess we will have to wait more for the Nintendo Direct that will reveal other games coming out this year.

  10. I’m hoping this is a 20 minute apology for Sword and Shield, complete with a list of ways they are going to right the wrongs of producing the worst main series Pokémon games to date. They can start by rectifying what is the worst postgame in a main series Pokémon game since Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow.

  11. What everyone expects:
Sword and Shield will have full connectivity with this new Pokemon Home. And maybe we’re working on a certain gen 4 remake
    What we’re actually getting:
Ohmori and Masuda glare at the screen. You’ve all been very bad boys and girls, switching days with no repurcussions and flying out of bounds and stealing shiny Pokemon from dens. We are making a patch to fix all of this and we are taking your perfect shiny Pokemon. Also Snom isn’t allowed in the Galar region anymore 🖕🖕

  12. R.I.P. getting a Smash announcement this month. Unless the final Fighters pass fighter is a Pokémon. Oh who am I kidding?

  13. Why couldn’t Genius Sonority
for pokemon colosseum made Sword and Sword and Shield or made a sequel? Why when Sword and Shield was in R&D and was saying they were not use to making a game on a home console why didnt they think of contacting Genius Sonority.

    WHY CANT DEVELOPERS MAKE SEQUELS!!!!!!

I need to contact a video game developer. What’s their secret? How do they make a living taking 3 years to make a game then after it is complete dont have to work for 8 years. I dont get it, I thought everyone needed money to make a living. Everyone except video game devlopers. They make 1 game then take 15 years to start a sequel.
It has been 8 years and no Rayman Legends 2, No Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze 2, No Luigi Mansion 4, no Wonderful 102, No Mario Rabbids 2, no Pikmin 4, no Metroid(sure they said it dont mean they actually worked on it) no Super Mario Strikers 2, No Treasure Toad Tracker 2. No Rayman Legends 2

Just make one game and dont do nothing.

Video game developers are stupid. If I was Gamefreak with no experience in working on a home console, I would had contacted Genuis Sonority back in 2014. And after Sword and Shield was complete in 2016 knowing Switch was going to debut in March 2017 immediately work on the next Pokemon Tittle and have them 5 tittles stacked up. Nintendo could release them every 2.5 years. Just keep making Sequel. Why stop and wait 8 years?

There’s actually an area to what you’re saying that I really should point out; Genius Sonority technically did work on Pokemon Sword and Shield but only because a lot of the staff, including James Turner who was the art director, were poached from Genius Sonority to join Game Freak.
That’s why we have not had any sequels to games like Pokemon Battle Revolution or Pokemon Colosseum, most of the original team have basically been absorbed by Game Freak.
