A “Kanto-themed celebration event” is beginning in Pokemon GO on February 21st

The Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event is almost here, but once the event is done, there’s more to look forward to. Niantic has announced a “Kanto-themed celebration event” that will be taking place February 21st through 27th, just in time for Pokemon Day and the franchise’s anniversary.

During this event, certain Pokemon are going to be appearing in raids, and there will be certain Pokemon attracted to Incense. You’ll also notice that certain Pokemon are going to be appearing more often in the wild. There is also going to be “event-exclusive Field Research tasks that reward Stardust and lead to encounters with Pokémon such as Doduo, Magnemite, Diglett, Omanyte, Kabuto, Snorlax, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, and more”. And according to Niantic, “Oddish, Bellsprout, Tangela, Dratini, Pichu, Elekid, Magby, and more” will be hatching from 5 km Eggs.

Niantic even confirmed that “some of the Collection Challenges from Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto will continue throughout the Kanto Celebration event”, and you’ll be able to “get Pokémon that know exclusive attacks from previous Community Day events” by evolving them. Ivysaur, Charmeleon, Wartortle, Pichu and Dragonair can all evolve into a Pokemon that knows an exclusive attack.

  1. I really wish they gave each gen equal treatment like they did in the gen 4 days instead of Kanto all the time. All of the people who are nostalgic for just gen one stopped playing GO.

    1. We’ve literally just had a week for each gen leading to this though. They introduced gen 6 then counted down to the 25th anniversary.
