While Sonic fans have been patiently waiting for news on a new Sonic game, details have been gradually trickling out about Sonic The Hedgehog 2, the sequel to the successful movie that released early last year. Filming of the movie recently concluded, and now we’ve received our first information about the movie’s plot.
A plot synopsis of the movie has officially appeared earlier tonight. Once again, it has been confirmed that Tails is going to be in the movie, and so will Knuckles. And, of course, you’ll be able to see the grand return of Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. You can see the full plot summary down below.
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Being directed by Jeff Fowler, and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz”.

Already quite interesting, and I’m sure there are some details purposely left out. I’m still predicting Metal Sonic will appear at some point, possibly as Robotnik’s last resort when the classic trio come together to defeat him.
Still being coy I see on who they got to voice Tails and Knuckles.
As long as Knuckles says his catchphrase from Sonic Adventure AT LEAST once
We still don’t know who is going to voice knuckles So, some people suggest the actor who plays Aquaman will be a good fit for the character in the film.
Does this mean that Amy will be in Sonic 3?
Will Sonic 3 be called Sonic 3 and Knuckles?
Will Dr. Eggman still be the best character in the movie?
The plot synopsis kinda sounds like sonic x episode where egg man tricks knuckles into thinking sonic was the enemy and etc

Since those were echidnas trying to capture Sonic at the beginning of the first film, I guess it was obvious Knuckles was gonna initially be an enemy when he finally appeared in a movie. Still wish they saved him for a third entry, though. … Maybe we can get Shadow in a third one to close out a “trilogy” instead?
Pretty sure most people guessed this plot so only really spoilers if you never played the games/know anything about the IP.
I will go a step further and guess the rest of the plot:
-Knuckles and Sonic fight it out for the Chaos Emerald(s)
-Robotnik gets his hands on them, reveals they are to be used to power up a giant floating base, the Death Egg
-Knuckles teams up with Sonic & Tails to stop Robotnik, ending in either a battle with the the doctor piloting the Death Egg Robo mech from the end of 2 OR he reveals a Chaos Emerald empowered robot he built to kill Sonic, Metal Sonic (or saved for an after credits scene)
