NIS America is in a celebratory mood as their well received Disgaea series of video games have now crossed five million copies sold worldwide as of September 2021. The latest game in the long-running series, Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, is currently on track to join the shortlist of most successful entries in the franchise. This is kind of a sadly low number considering how many games have been in this series. They just released the sixth one, which means they didn’t crack 1 mil each, but it gets much worse when you factor in how much porting they did well after the launch of each original title. PSP ports, DS ports, complete editions, steam releases.
Not a criticism of quality. I enjoy the games.
Yep, it’s definitely a niche series.
But ultimately, it doesn’t seem like they’re exactly big budget games. So they’re at least making a profit.
