Chris Pratt talks about his love of Mario and says his new role is a personal dream come true

We found out a little more about Illumination’s Super Mario Movie during Thursday Nintendo Direct presentation. The film is set for release in December 2022 and Mr. Miyamoto revealed the array of stars which have been cast for the upcoming animation in the presentation. Mario will be played by none other than Chris Pratt who took to Instagram after the news had been announced to chat about his love of the Mario franchise and the joy he felt at being cast as the iconic Italian plumber.

“There was this coin-operated laundromat near my house, and it had Super Mario Bros., the original arcade game. I loved that game,” Pratt says in the video published to Instagram. Because he “never had a quarter, it felt like,” Pratt would steal quarters out of a wishing fountain.

“The quarter I stole out of the wishing well to play Super Mario Bros. has come true that I get to be the voice of Mario, but I clearly stole someone else’s wish. So just waiting for that row of karma dominoes to come crashing down on me,” quipped Pratt, “but as it is right now, it’s-a me, Mario.”

“We’ve been working hard at it and I’m really excited to announce that I’m going to be the voice of that video game that I dreamed about playing as a kid. Dreams come true.”

  1. I like that Chris Pratt getting to voice Mario. I hope Nintendo and Illumination ignore those weirdos on twitter who hate him.

      1. Some people may be complaining just because Pratt isn’t a good choice, but he does have a point. Twitter has veen known to complain about him because he’s a Christian.

          1. Most people are chill, it’s just the most vocal people on Twitter never grow tired of raising their pitchforks at whatever. That kind of toxic behavior is why I don’t partake in the big social media platforms besides commenting on sites like this and dming my friends. That stuff is just a huge strain on one’s mental health.

            1. Yes, very true. Maybe that’s why you don’t used them. People out their are such big talkers and likes to complains about stuff like Chris Pratt is a Christian. They always talk down to other actors for there own entertainment and raising there torch. Sooner or later, the complains will be over soon enough.

  2. Does this imply that Pratt knows who Mario is and what he’s supposed to sound like? Timberlake did voice Boo-Boo in the Yogi Bear movie.

With no trailer or clips to go off of, and only those celebrity names/images, of course people are going to be skeptical. And people can’t create their own alternative projects because Nintendo is now witch-hunting people.

I just don’t want to feel pissed-off watching this film in theaters come 12/21/22.

    1. They made the right call announcing the voice cast early like this, so that more skeptical people have a chance to get used to the casting choices.

I’m waiting for the first trailer to see how the characters sound and are animated before I make any judgment about the cast since it may end up working just fine. I haven’t really been a fan of Illumination’s post-Despicable Me 1 works though, so I’m hoping they exceed my expectations.

  4. The weirdos Anillo Igneo refers to are the wokes who hate him for being christian, not the ones complainig about the voice cast.
Yes, he knows what Mario is supposed to sound like, Mario cannot sound like that in a feature film, it’d be too hard on Charles and it would get annoying for the audience.
Nintendo is not witch hunting anyone making passion projects, they stop people who try to make money by exploiting their copyrighted intellectual properties, there is no shortage of videos and events made by fans that are allowed to thrive, even offensive ones like “Rac*st Mario”, they just happen to not be monetized.

  5. It’s sad that people are already clowning on him for being the voice of Mario in the movie when they still don’t know if he does a good Mario impression or not. 😕

  6. I’ll reserve judgement until hearing it. Though Mario is Italian or no? I thought he was supposed to be an italian plumber, which is why I don’t understand why we don’t have an italian voice actor for Mario. Makes me think his voice will not be a classic Mario impersonation, but something closer to Pratt’s normal voice. I just hope the lame sense of humor that comes from his marvel movies doesn’t show up in this movie.
