Bloomberg reports today that Chinese gaming firm Tencent has quietly purchased Japanese developer Soleil who are best known for the Nintendo Switch games Ninjala and who helped create Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. The move is a part of a talent acquisition to bolster Tencent’s game studios. The Chinese company has taken a whopping 90% stake in Soleil which has cost them more than 5 billion yen ($44 million). As noted by Bloomberg, Tencent rarely takes over entire studios, so this is a first for a company which has generally made much smaller investments.

But I thought Ninjala was already free 🥴
Soleil? Wasn’t Ninjala made by GungHo or am I missing something.
Sounds like the publisher was GungHo but the developers were Soleil. They are now owned by Tencent.
“Ninjala is a title developed by GungHo Online Entertainment. Soleil co-developed parts of the game, but the game is mostly developed in-house at GungHo!” Directly from the PlayNinjala twitter account. https://twitter.com/playninjala/status/1460356806882906112
