Here’s the time Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop shut down for good today

Nintendo Eshop

Today is an end of era for the Nintendo eShop on both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems as they are closing for good, which means that you will no longer be able to purchase new games from either stores, which is a crying shame. Still, the closures are going ahead as Nintendo planned and we have had a fair amount of notice that they were closing. Here’s the exact time that the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop closes today.

  • PT: 27th March at 5pm
  • ET 27th March at 8pm
  • BST: 28th March at 1am

  1. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove is down to 6 bucks! Never got down like that, so it was my farewell-purchase for the WiiU that might keep that old boy running for quite some more years.

Really sad to see the eshop closing as the WiiU is still very regularly used in my household. Switch is easily my all time favorite console, but with kids, there ain’t nothing better than playing Nintendoland. Nintendo really had something there, too bad it didn’t play out. RIP eshop, when you’re up there in Nintendoheaven, please send my regards to Miiverse!

  2. It seems incredibly outdated now, even though the switch online shop isn’t as complete as the 3DS/Wii U, it seems more fun, and has games that previously didn’t exist, like Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye, Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, they are doing an awesome job with the catalogue now, more then they’ve ever done. And it can only grow and get more golden as the years progresses. I’m glad the old eshops are gone. The biggest title still missing, Mario legend of the 7 stars for snes. But I’m pretty happy with everything else.

  3. No Nintendo sales… but you can get some games dirt cheap. All the big Capcom games are. I never played Ace Attorney so I got the Trilogy for $2.99. Also got Culdcept Revolt for cheap too.

I’m still debating on Kid Icarus Uprising. I’ve played it, I liked it, I just didn’t like the control scheme a lot. It’s still fantastic game I want to replay but… I don’t want to pay $35 today for it and then find out later this year that it’s getting a remake for the Switch. Argh… Only 3 hours left to decide…

    1. Well, that’s that. The eshop app still launches but the storefront is barebones except for Nintendo Selects for some reason (you still can’t buy them). You can redownload anything you already bought but yeah… no more purchases.

In the end, I just decided to hope that Sakurai was hinting at a Kid Icarus Uprising port in one of his videos.

Honestly, I actually get pretty ticked off when I think about all this. There’s just no reason for Nintendo to not have had heavy discounts this last week like Capcom did. I guess they thought that people would pay full price regardless… but not me. I got mad thinking about paying $10 for Pokemon Crystal. Or $40 for Luigi’s Mansion or Kirby Epic Yarn or Bowser’s Inside Story. Discounted them to $3-$5? I would have said “Why not” and bought them all. It’s just real shitty that people out their probably dropped hundreds of dollars this week to buy 3DS software just because the used games market is ridiculous.
