SEGA has yet to officially unveil the release date for the eagerly anticipated Sonic Superstars, though popular US video game retailer, GameStop, has Sonic’s new 2D adventure penciled down as releasing on Tuesday, 17th October. Interestingly that the very same week in October when Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Insomniac’s long-awaited Spider-Man 2 are scheduled to launch. It will be interesting to see whether SEGA feels confident enough releasing their latest new Sonic game during that particular week.

Sega should probably think about delaying the release by at least 3-4wks. This way they get extra time to put more finishing touches on their game AND they avoid getting stomped by Mario.

The problem is that nowadays sega might want to prove that sonic is the “highest grossing videogame franchise” they claim to be after the movies’ successes and it could only embarrass the gaming side even more, hell…the game is going to sell well but as every sonic game since going 3rd party the numbers are going to look as a joke compared to Nintendo’s own first party releases, how many copies sonic generations, lost world, forces and frontiers sold individually? now compare them with contemporary games such as super mario 3d land, 3d world, odyssey and zelda: TOTK and the numbers (albeit decent) are laughable for a multi platform release, sonic is multi platform but it doesn’t move numbers as Nintendo’s system “locked games”.
Tbh, I hope superstars sells extraordinary well as I like classic sonic model than the moder one.

If this is true, I have a lot of respect for sega; they have a lot of brass for trying to take on both Mario and Spider-Man.
I mean I’m picking up Sonic superstars because I’m a massive fan, but I’m also a realist on how this is going to go…
If this is true then it’ll no doubt hurt the number of units sold for each title if people can only get one over the other, remember when Street Fighter 6 released like 4 days before Diablo 4 “don’t dev’s check when other games are scheduled for release before picking a release date for their own game”

I’m waiting for a cross generation 2D adventure between Mario and Sonic vs Bowser and Eggman. After all, these are the two biggest faces of gaming. The Blue and the Red!!!
