Sonic Superstars won’t have returning areas from previous Sonic games

Yesterday, SEGA and Sonic Team announced a new 2.5D Classic Sonic game that is called Sonic Superstars. The game will feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy as they defeat Dr. Eggman and Fang. Details are slowly coming in about the game, and there’s been some new information that has caught the attention of a lot of Sonic fans.

You see, Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka recently spoke to IGN about Sonic Superstars. In the interview, Iizuka confirms that there will not be any returning areas from previous Sonic games. In fact, Iizuka says that “what we wanted to do with Sonic Superstars is really create something new and go in there and create these brand new islands that you get to explore as Sonic. We wanted to take Sonic to [the] brand new North Star Islands and have Sonic run around in this new environment. So we wanted to make brand new places for Sonic to go in this new title”.

  1. I think that’s sort of expected, but I don’t mind if they still start off in what’s green hill zone, but it’s all new of course.
It’s got such a cool look, I just hope it’s not let down by being too short, not enough replay ability etc.
I def felt like I wanted this game as soon as I saw it, I love these 2.5d platformers.

  2. Honestly if it was a Hilltop Zone or Aquatic Ruin Zone like Stage added since we haven’t seen them since Sonic 2 it wouldn’t feel rehashed.

  3. This game wasn’t made for me. I’ll wait for a port of sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2, sonic heroes, shadow the hedgehog or sonic riders. I do like the sonic advance trilogy and sonic rush. I already have sonic 3 on my Nintendo ds. I believe classic sonic will hinder the development of modern sonic games.

  4. Sure its all new. Yes, simply because the brown tiling under the grass is blue and there are a few tentacle shaped interactable vines this isn’t Green Hill Zone.
