Asobo says “all the studios in the world” planning to avoid GTA VI release window

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be the biggest game launch of the year and other publishers are narrowly trying to avoid releasing their titles near the game’s release date of 19th November. In a new interview Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy producer, Eric Chort, has said that “all the studios in the world” are thinking about Grand Theft Auto VI and the potential disruption it could serve to video game releases this year.

“All the studios in the world were thinking about it. When you know that GTA is coming, you know that in terms of marketing, in terms of players, the time to play games, GTA is like the ogre, it’s the biggest one,” Chort explains. “So you try to adapt, you… try to avoid it. But then this year we see that there are only good games, or at least a lot of good games, so we’re like, okay, that’s the industry, and we try to make the best game possible.”

  1. People won’t shut up about this sequel to a boring realistic game, and I’m still waiting for Capcom to announce Mega Man Battle Network 7 featuring CrashMan EXE. I hate this timeline.

    1. GTA V sold over 220 million copies. It’s understandable that many people would be excited about the sequel, especially with hype for the game existing since the mid-2010s.

I want more Mega Man too. I’m hopeful that the next classic game is good and that we’ll get games in the other Mega Man series.

    2. f00k offf00k offf00k off

Nobody cares about that random indie game, GTA VI will sell 1000x more, no exaggeration, on DAY ONE sonnn

  2. I think Nintendo should be bold and just release OoT in November. Not day and date of GTA VI or anything silly, but given how that game isn’t coming on Switch 2 and how little is coming out around it, I think OoT to give people who don’t really care about GTA something to buy and something to do is a fine idea. The game I think will be a fairly evergreen release too so I don’t think it’s just relying on launch sales.

  3. Not all of them. Nintendo apparently doesn’t care since OoT will be their big holiday title.

To be fair, they’re the only ones who can afford to challenge GTA.

  4. I don’t plan on buying this game at all, but I can still tell this is going to be one of the biggest game releases of the past 25 years LOL. Feels strange to not be into it at all but I’ mglad so many people are excited haha

    1. No they do not. Gaming has become more an old people thing especially these kinds of games. Kids if rhey play games play Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite.

      1. Uhh, I feel like half of the people playing gta 5 right now are 13 and under. Like gta is popular with teens even though it’s rated m. It’s kind of like how call of duty servers are filled with ten year olds screaming in the voice chat.

  5. Ah. That’s why we didn’t see 3D Mario during the direct. It’d be suicide to release it this holiday so they’ll wait until next year sometime.

  6. there’s gonna be a few tiny studios who will make gangbusters releasing in other parts of the month, especially on Switch and PC since neither is getting GTA (at least not at launch). but some counterprogramming wouldn’t be unwise, even on PS and Xbox, as long as it’s not on the same day (and even then at least one indie will probably be like “I’M TAKING ON GTA VI” memeingly and farm coverage they wouldn’t get otherwise. I think Devolver has joked about it, but I doubt they’d so that at this point).
