A traditional Direct is rumoured for next week before Tokyo Game Show 2023

Bowser in Super Mario RPG

Portuguese website Universo Nintendo, which has previously gotten some leaks correct, states that a traditional Nintendo Direct presentation is happening next week, specifically between 11th September and 15th September. Nintendo typically holds a Nintendo Direct presentation in September, just before the Tokyo Game Show, where some of the showcased games are playable on the show floor. Nintendo has not officially announced a Nintendo Direct, so this information is currently just a rumor. If there are any updates, we will be sure to inform you.

    1. Not everyone holds the same weight of that day as American’s do, especially those living outside that country. Hell, some American’s don’t put the same weight of that day as other Americans do. I don’t believe the direct will be on September 11th not because of that but just because they don’t usually hold directs on mondays.

    2. Starfox 64 3DS released on 9/11 in America. Just want to point that out. A game that centers around aircraft released on 9/11 several years ago. I don’t think Nintendo cares about the event or they wouldn’t release a Starfox game on that day.

  1. An indie Direct makes the most sense. I want a big Nintendo Direct as much as the next person. But, they won’t want to take away attention from Mario Wonder. They just had a major Direct when they revealed all those Mario related games. And they need to taper off the bigger Directs at some point and time fairly soon if they’re really gearing up for the next generation gaming platform next year.

    1. Mario Odyssey literally came out in October and they still had their usual big Nintendo direct in September, besides wario and rpg Mario and are also fall titles as well it’s no doubt there going to go into more details with them and advertise wonder in the main direct (wonder probably won’t be as much of a big a focus of course due to it having a direct but I could see them withholding another interesting surprise) not to mention they still have some 2024 games left untitled peach game and luigi mansion dark moon port and than theres the hint of splatoon 3 and the mk8 dlc coming out this year.

      1. Yeah, but a main Direct usually focuses on new games as well as updates on previously announced games. My point is if we do get a Direct this year it’ll either be an Indie Direct or a Direct Mini rather than another big game dump like we got in late June.

As stated, I want more games announced as much as the next guy. But realistically they have to start slowing down the train assuming the next year is the next generation platform. They need time to work on games for the release window and if they keep announcing games for the Switch, it’ll be less likely the rumor this successor will be released sometime next year.

        1. They literally already said don’t expect any new console release early 2024, besides last September direct only had one major new announced game and that was Kirby Dreamland Wii port, we still got info dump on splatoon 3 update, and mk8 deluxe dlc and another look at tears of the kingdom that year.

          1. They also said Melee characters weren’t coming to Smash 4, they also said the 3DS wasn’t replacing the DS and other instances where they either changed their minds last minute or wanted to subvert expectations. Just because they say something isn’t coming it doesn’t necessarily mean its true. But, that said I also think a late 2024 is more likely to capitalize on the holiday sales.

And again, I repeat myself I think we will get a Direct, just not a major one. A smaller Direct could give us all the updates we need for upcoming games and DLC with room for a few announcements rather than a ton of new stuff sounds like a more likely scenario. Or an Indie Direct could happen if they don’t have much to announce yet with a Mini around the corner.

They will taper off Switch news and especially upcoming games in the coming months. We will hear less and less as they gear up for the next generation. If they come out strong with a ton of announcements, that’ll be a sign that 2024 might not be the next Nintendo platform.

        2. Just because you want the next Nintendo console to come soon doesn’t mean Nintendo’s gonna cater to you. They still have the rest of the Booster Pass to announce plus more updates on Splatoon 3, Mario RPG remake, Wario Ware, Detective Pikachu, and there was no indicator that they were done talking about Wonder. Not to mention they still got the Peach game, Dark Moon remaster, the rumored Prime 2 & 3 ports, and possibly one last look at a new game or something we’ve been known about. Nintendo may have lowered their Switch sales projections, but you’re crazy if you think they’re gonna drop it completely for the new console. I’d bet my left foot that most of these games are gonna twinkle down to the new console

          1. The Booster Pass only has 1 or 2 releases left and will be done before summer next year. Splatoon 3 updates can happen with a new platform on the way, Wonder is a game already announced and just had a major Direct. Metriod Prime 2 and 3 ports/remasters are just rumored games at the moment. And yes, they will continue to support the Switch long after the next device is released. My point is if they are bringing the next platform out next year (and there are a lot of reasons why it makes sense) eventually Nintendo needs to put their focus on release window games for the next platform.

The Switch will still get games after this device releases as they always support the last generation for a year or two after its successor releases. But new announcements will taper off as we approach the next generation. That’s just how it works. Like I’ve said two other times already. If we get a major Direct focusing on new Switch games, we can safely assume the next gen hardware won’t be here next year.

            1. Like Atreyu said there been a big direct ever September and the pandemic ones that had indie and partners don’t count as covid push lots of development back, having big game announcements isn’t going to affect a new system as people are always going to buy the next Nintendo system for the next Mario, Zelda etc even after the switch was first announce the 3ds still received some pretty good games before it said it’s goodbye this is some pretty weird logic your using to think they still wouldn’t announce a new system if we get a big direct this year in the same following month as always buddy.

              1. They need to focus on release window games if the next generation is actually coming next year. It could be 2025, that wouldn’t surprise me. If that happens then a big Direct will probably happen.

Not sure if you noticed, but usually when a next gen hardware is on the way, fewer games are announced for the current gen hardware. It almost always happens. Now it might be less noticeable for Nintendo fans as this is the first time we only have one platform to support rather than than two and the Switch is the 3rd most successful platform of all time. But this coming year will probably see little to no more major releases and more smaller games like Mario Sports, or a Kirby spin-off. Maybe a new Pokémon generation because they’re more wildly inconsistent with releasing major games when new hardware is approaching but they’re the odd exception to the general rule.

      1. But it could be a Mini…
Its almost like you guys aren’t excited for a new generation. If its successful it means more 3rd party support and more power to dedicate to Nintendo games. We will finally have hardware that fully surpasses the seventh generation. We’ve been stuck with the same visuals (more or less) since the Wii U launched all the way back in 2012. This could be the first real noticeable leap in raw power in over a decade. Why am I the only one looking forward to this transition?

  2. Im kinda hoping that they announce or mention the Disgaea 7 demo for North America, Japan got the demo 2 weeks before the official release of Disgaea 7. So, hopefully North America gets the Demo for Disgaea 7 on or around September 19th.
