Pokemon fans overwhelm the Van Gough Museum for merch, Pokemon Company apologises for it being sold-out so quick

If you’ve been on social media, you will have seen the chaos that was the Pokémon x Van Gogh Museum Pokemon Centre promotion in Amsterdam. The event was clearly overwhelmed by the sheer number of people trying to get hold of the exclusive Pokemon-themed merchandise and art-work. This ultimately resulted in a lot of the merch being sold for massively inflated prices on eBay. The Pokemon Company issued the following statement on X and apologised to the fans for the merchandise selling out so quickly, though they didn’t address the chaos that ensued when it became available for purchase.

Statement:

“We apologize to all the fans eagerly awaiting our Pokémon Center x Van Gogh Museum release today. Due to overwhelming demand, all our products from this collection have sold out. We understand this is disappointing to many who were looking to our official email and social media channels for guidance on how and when to purchase. We are actively working on ways to provide more “Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat” promo cards for fans shopping at Pokémon Center in the future. Details will be released at a later date. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. #PokemonVanGoghMuseum.”

  1. What fans? It was a bunch of rabbid scalpers looking for merchandise plus the event card to speculate off on ebay.

  2. I’m a huge Van Gogh fan but even I found the Pokemon and Van Gogh Museum crossover to be.. kind of poor taste.
The man’s work is some of the most beautiful pieces I’ve seen and especially when you know the history behind each one and Van Gogh himself, who was a perfectionist at heart but always told people to keep on improving and even he knew art isn’t something you work on for the money.

Nah, all I see are bunch of pathetic scalpers knowing gulable Pokemon Fans will eat it up even if it does cost an Arm and a Leg, for me, I’ll just find the scans online for free…. yeah the Scalpers are getting dumber, they don’t realize that some people will buy these to put them online for free

  3. These people expected Nintendo, or rather a Nintendo adjacent company, to have good stock of physical goodies? insert J. Jonah Jameson laugh meme Fools! Ninty & TPC always have shit stock. At this point, I fully believe it’s fucking intentional on their part.
