Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake: progress update from Yuji Horii

In a recent update on the highly anticipated Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, series creator Yuji Horii shared some promising insights into the development process. Previously mentioned in May 2021, the remake has been progressing steadily, according to Horii. However, this time, the update feels more tangible. Horii revealed that he participated in a late-night playtest of the game, signaling a significant milestone in the development. While playtesting is a meticulous phase, this development suggests positive strides towards the completion of the project. Although it’s not a confirmation of an imminent release, the news is undoubtedly exciting for fans eagerly awaiting the return of Dragon Quest III in a revamped HD-2D format.

The announcement coincided with the second anniversary of the Japanese mobile app Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi and the launch of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. Horii expressed gratitude to the fans in a heartfelt tweet, acknowledging their support for enabling him to pursue his passion: “So, Dragon Quest Monsters 3 has finally been released. At the same time, Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi celebrated its 2nd anniversary. And last night, I was playing a test play of Dragon Quest 3 Remake at Square Enix until almost 10 pm. It is thanks to all of you that I am able to work hard like this. Thank you very much.”

    1. Dragon Quest Builders was my first Dragon Quest game i’ve been waiting for an update or anything really about Dragon Quest Builders 3. It was roughly 2 years between the first Dragon Quest Builders game and Dragon Quest Builders 2, i’d assume we would surly have heard sometime about Dragon Quest Builders 3 if it was in development as Dragon Quest Builders 2 released in 2018.

      1. After playing the first dragon quest builders game, did you end up playing dragon quest one? And after the second one, did you go back and play dragon quest two?

  1. I really hope we get a third person perspective in battle. I was never a big fan of the first person view, I much prefer seeing my characters and their equipped weapon in battle. A suggestion would be to make it an option to turn on and off similar to DQ11 Classic and free form camera. That would be awesome!

  2. Not to take away from what will be an amazing remake, but I’d like to see them do I-VI as Pixel Remakes as they did with FF…
