The beautifully animated Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge smash hit for Nintendo and Illumination, and everyone is waiting with bated breath for news on the sequel. Variety recently had the chance to speak to the excellent Jack Black, who plays the mighty Bowser in the movie. He said he’s ready and raring to go, but he says it has been “radio silence” from both parties when it comes to the follow-up movie.
“It has been radio silence. The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don’t even know if I’m allowed to chatter. I’ve been chomping at the bit to get back to business.”
I mean they do the voice work and the film is nowhere near needing that yet, I’m guessing, so why would he expect to hear from them already?
That’s also probably because of script work and animating as well that being said the movie hasn’t been out long enough
The voice actors wouldn’t be needed for another couple of years at least. And if you know Nintendo, they wouldn’t be telling anybody anything, unless it was on a need to know basis.
I guarantee you Nintendo is more focused on the Zelda movie at this point. Not to mention illumination has several other movies to focus on as well.
In america it is extremely common for execs to start pushing for sequels the minute they realize they have a success on their hands. Sequels for big hits are usually out with in two years. This is likely what Jabk Black is used to. I doubt Nintendo operates the same way.
I always have hopes of the sequel but it’s been too quiet about the news on it regarding the animation and the schedule times.
That’s Nintendo for you make one good game or movie see the sales results but don’t plan a sequel for another 20 years.
Its obvious they’ll make a second movie, but I bet they’ll tackle movies one at a time. They’ll wait till Zelda is done and if that one does well, they’ll either start another project for another Nintendo IP like Donkey Kong or Metriod, or they’ll make the 2nd Mario film. We probably won’t see the second Mario film for another 7+ years.
I will not be watching or taking my children to watch a movie with this Criminal Jack Black being part of it. I do not condone criminals that incite murder or violence. As of right now, I will not buy or support any Nintendo games, toys or movies until they end their relationship with Jack Black who supports murder and violence.
