Great, here we go again. Be prepared for male characters are completely incapable of doing anything and the girls will save the day.

    1. Where does this even come from? Even in the Mario movie, the day is literally saved by the two brothers.

Are people so mad about ‘muh woke’ they just assume it applies to everything now?

      1. Yup. Unfortunately some men feel attacked if they don’t see women in movies as an useless accessory in need to be saved, uncapable of even breathing without the help of a strong man. I guess they are realizing that unless a woman like that exists in real life they will be virgins forever.

        1. It’s not that they are scared of strong women but when you take a woman that is a damsel in distress and make her this powerhouse it is pretty lame. The same goes if you take a manly man and make him a pansy. Both of these scenario’s work vice versa also. Nobody wants characters to be something they never have been.

    2. I mean, that definitely is an annoying cliche that’s popular in Hollywood nowadays, but I thought the Mario movie was fine in that regard.
Mario is only somewhat incompetent at the start of the movie, with him growing throughout it and eventually being the one to save the day in the end. Peach was also a likeable and fleshed out enough character to not fall into the “strong female protagonist with the personality of a plank of wood” cliche too.
Assuming this (potential) film is also made by people who respect the origins of these characters (and know how to make strong female characters who actually have interesting personalities and character arcs), I don’t see an issue.

    3. Another soft little manchild worried about kids movies. More worried about Disney than you are about your menial little job

      1. I think people are just tired of Hollywood screwing with things. They tend to change crap all the time. Mario was an ok movie but aside from Pratt not being Mario Anya Taylor made for a worse Peach.
Between them both they made the movie bad. Now their already working on ruining Zelda and now the whole thing with Smash.

    4. Are you really going through life over analyzing that kind of thing? So you can’t get excited for anything anymore is what you’re saying morbid guy?

  2. Just one problem, the films rights for Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon are owned by different movie studios. I doubt they will play ball even if Nintendo asks them.

    1. I am sure Mr. Kimishima said in a shareholder meeting that Nintendo owns the rights for the super mario bros. movie.

  3. Just one problem, the film rights for Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon are owned by different movie studios. I doubt they will play ball even if Nintendo tries to pressure them.

    1. That’s not true. I am sure the rights were for the one movie. Nintendo is not stupid, if anything they may have gave Illumination a multi movie deal but that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to use the characters with another studio.

  4. As much as I would like a Supe Smash bros cinematic universe, I think it’s impossible at this point due to the Zelda movie and possibly the Mega Man movie being live action.

  5. Mmmm, I really don’t think they have plans on doing it right now even so Mr. Kimishima once said that Nintendo owns the whole IP of Smash Bros during its investor meetings. I’m not gonna say that illumination is copying Marvel studios of avengers, they just wanted it to be its own thing with its own style for the multiverse plots. I know many people can’t get enough of multiverse and crossover stuff. I’m pretty sure God knows that honestly.

    1. Agreed. It was kind of insane what Marvel pulled off in the first place, and without proper planning and dedication, it really falls flat. And with how disconnected all the different franchises in Smash are in the first place, I don’t see it working out in a meaningful way, as cool as it sounds on paper.

  6. Go ahead, make a Smash Brothers movie…but follow the first games and make it Nintendo Toy Story. Don’t pull any multiverse nonsense. Glad that Zelda being live action probably means no Nintendo cinematic universe. Let things be thematically pure for a change.
