There have been a number of visually impressive games released this year across the different formats and tech-focused site Digital Foundry has decided to list their favorites. It was always unlikely that a Nintendo Switch game would win, but Digital Foundry has given honourable mentions to both the visually striking Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the atmospheric Metroid Prime Remastered. If you are curious who won best video game graphics of 2023, it was Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontier of Pandora followed by Alan Wake II.

Well avatar does look super impressive, but I was blown away by totk, there’s just this special thing that Nintendo and only Nintendo can do when it comes to creating games.
I was amazed at red dead 2 when I first played it, but totk I found myself just gazing at hyrule field when running along with link and spinning the camera round, grass swaying and the sun beaming down and the sound of the wildlife I just wanted to jump into the screen.

Nintendos art direction is just so unique. Even underpowered their games hold up beautifully.

Metroid PR & Dread definitely look amazing for games made specifically for Switch.
